Blue
Hi All, I am hopefully going to be driving in the next couple of months. My cabby is my first car that I bought back in Feb which I am hoping to use straight away as soon as I have my full licence. But I either get a quote of 6,500+ for a year or just get rejected, which to me seems insane as it is a 27 year old 1.6 which is really not that fast. If anyone has advise on where I can look or what I should do it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Josh

I had a look at adding a black box but it put mine up another £200 which makes no sense either! I did have thoughts of buying a 1.3 ghia mk3/mk4 escort for a year and store the cabby but they are not as cheap to buy as they used to be. Ian71
Some ins company's will fit a camera in the car,or curfew after 7 or eight in the evening. My youngest paid 1800 at 18 for his ka 1.3 without any gismos.
allblue
Insurance is nuts these days. I pay 250 fully comp for my 1.6 cabrio (90 bhp) Just got quoted for an Mk3 focus RS (that I'm considering buying new - 300 bhp) - £300 fully comp. You work that one out. But all in, I'm actually happy with that :-)

.dan.
insurance makes no sense. I regularly hear from my learners of not being able to be quoted less than 3k. there are a few things you can try to lower your quote, but be honest. many of my friends drive highly modified cars, and they get better quotes for listing their mods. another friend did 3 quotes but changed one thing each time he was quoted, where he kept it, in a garage, on the drive and on the road, keeping it on the road was cheapest, how does that work? I recently called my insurance company to change some details, and the lady on the phone said that looks like a nice area, I asked her how she knew and she replied that she was looking at my house on google street view, im guessing to check I do have a garage. adding parents to your policy can make a difference, and which one or indeed both can have different effects. don't be tempted to insure your car in a parents name and go on the policy as a named driver, this is insurance fronting and is fraudulent, you can and will get caught out. black boxes make a difference, curfews are a pain, drive well and you can be rewarded further. limit mileage, but note that mot's are available to view online so don't lie. that's just a few tips I can think of right now. Himanshu
I remember buying my first cab at 21 and it cost £300 to insure, however due to the joyriding phase this cost upto to £2200 at next renewal. Have you tried classic car insurance, however it will hit young people as it did me.
