Lancaster or RAC Classic Car insurance. I am with LV and they insure me for £108, however it is only the market values, and not an agreed value. However with classic car insurance, you have to have a valuation, that costs, then restricted mileage, and then have to have it parked in a secure garage, and not outside after certain hours. Its a bit of a hassle. Also not with classic car insurance, you do not get or earn any no claims discount, and if you have earnt any and you do not use them on another vehicle you will loose that earnt bonus after 2 years, so bear that in mind. Also with classic car insurance, this can not be your main car you have to have two cars, that is my understanding. CHeck out the policy excesses too they are horrendous, and some offer no windscreen damage. In the case of convertibles you have to have the roof up and secured when you are parked up. But then with the British weather thats a given.

True i've not come across one so far that doesn't have a 25 age restriction. That may not mean there arn't some out there though

Hi, Whats the problem with Adrian Flux? I am just about to change my insurance to them!

We have spent over £5k restoring our Mk5 Cab, and I have been quote £240 fully comp to insure as a classic car at a value of £10k with a limit of 5000 miles per year.

This is subject to the underwriters viewing the the 7 pics and details that I have just sent to them.

This seems a great deal as our current insurance would only be market value of about £500 or less.

Any feedback would be welcome before we change

Thanks Keith

I would be very supprised if the agreed values would ever be taken into account in the event of an accident,as most parts are not available to repair a car, i take mine with a pinch of salt, when i had a slight rear end 3 years ago they were basicaaly just gona wright off the car, luckily the guy who hit me paid himself so i managed to repair with second hand parts.

I found out that my postcode is the problem, I got quotes inputting them, in East London (not garaged but secure car park CCTV) £211 (classic car Insurance), and one in Mosside, (Garaged) with alarm. £274. Then with other postcodes, Norwich (Lowestoft £98) not in garage, in driveaway. Wiltshire £89 On street). Then I got one of where I live, wait for it..... Garaged, fully alarmed, and it was £309! It seems Leicester is rated higher than Toxteth, Mosside, East London. I cant believe it! They blamed it on.....well I cant say as I will get a violation notice....If you come to East Leicester you may know why.

Had a lot of problems with Adrian Flux, quoted me an agreed value of £10k for £240. I refused to take it out without a written confirmation of the value, had to send 7 photo's and all details.

2 weeks later they have just come back with a value of £4k. Glad I did not take out the policy with them !!!! Customer service useless

Just phoned Footman James they have agreed to insure for £10k as a classic car for £302 with a max of 5000 miles per year. Classic car specialist, first class service and they know all about cars.

We can now drive the car knowing that the £5k plus restorations costs are fully covered.

Just got to fit the new cooling fan this weekend (Ford wanted £249 for a new fan we purchase from onlinecarparts for £88 include shipment by UPS from Germany)

Forget Adrian Flux, just wasted 3 weeks of my time.

Phoned Footman James, quoted on the phone as a classic car, with an agreed value.

Points to note:-

You must be a fully paid up member to a car club and remain so, they checked my membership number on line whilst I was on the phone?

The car has to be over 20 years old and original spec and condition.

The car can be parked on the drive and has to be fitted with an immobilizer

You can can agree the mileage 3k, 5K,7K to a max 10k per year. the price increase with the miles.

Normal coverage includes shows, spares and you can even buy back the salvage if written off.

They will quote for under 25's!

Hope this helps

I think is worth given them a phone
