Another small update.

And speaking of doorcards, I won these on eBay for the low price of £20.50 including postage.

The photos aren't the best as they're from the listing, but they look 100 times better than mine do.

They need a good cleaning, and I'll take some better photos of them once they arrive.

Cheers dude, not a chance I'm afraid! Borbet A's are my favourite wheel.

Going for the low and wide Euro look with it but it'd definitely taking a lot longer than I first imagined.

You've definitely inspired me with the black dash and stickerbombing, it freshens up the interior a hell of a lot!

It'll never be finished though, there will always be something I want to do.

Never saw this until today... just been reading through the whole thread, and I even got a mention

It's looking good buddy... hopefully it will all be done ready for show season next year, you can park next to me at the Deal car show... although watching yours it will put mine to shame... Think after my last show on Saturday I need to take it off the road and start a refurb on it all, starting with the rust spots showing through

Cheers Dave, I'm planning on being ready for the shows next year! I've got loads to do yet though. But I'm aiming to be at as many as possible. Definitely Deal, I think we could get a few involved in that one next year.

Once I get my new bushes and wheel bearings it's just a case of the front end being put back together and turned round so I can do the rear.

take it all apart, clean, repaint, fit bushes and put back together.... Sounds simple doesn't it haha.

The engine is a whole different ball of wax though! Just going to fit the B&M shifeter, a bit of tidying and a few cosmetic bits for now.

And fit new brakes, Mondeo calipers and ST170 discs.

Yours doesn't look too bad at all, a few small rust spots but nothing major really is there?

Hopefully not too much to do mate... but the bottom of the drivers door seems a bit rotten, and the rear quarter is a bit rusty... hopefully it will just be a simple treatment case and I won't have to cut out too much and weld, as I have no idea how to weld... got to replace the battery tray too.

Hopefully it won't be much... don't want it to turn into a money pit and having to cut half the car away.

Fingers crossed for you, that's the last thing you want. I'm the same with welding, I haven't got a clue how to do it.

I've been pretty lucky with rust up to yet though, just found a small patch on the drivers wing where the bumper mounting screws are so I'll get that sorted out soon.

I haven't had my bodykit off yet though so I don't know whats hiding under there for me, but the two front arches looked sound.

And I know all about money pits, this was only supposed to be a quick tidy, refresh and back on the road.

Im sure haynes do a welding manual with tutorials etc

I reckon I'll need more than a manual mate, but it's definitely on my list of things I need to learn.

Do any of you good people have any idea where I can find one of those metal water pipes?

It's looking like I might have to make a new one up myself.

Well, that pipe that was buggered and there was no chance of getting a replacement so I knocked up my own with a length of copper pipe.

DSC_1014_zps6vxirt2q.jpg

Ordered two P clamps for a £1 and just needs cutting down a touch and it'll work a treat.

Got the new pipe on and fitted it to the car, it works a treat so that's a bonus.

Also put the Mrs to work painting a few bits for me.

DSC_1052_zpsn8z22t5f.jpg

And she's also volunteered to clean and paint the rear wishbones, tie rods and anti roll bar when I take it apart, which is nice.

That's a good point actually Stu, I didn't think of that. I'll strip that off today.

The copper pipe seems good but I haven't started the car yer, hopefully it'll be fine.

Also got the old gear linkage off the car ready for the B&M shifter to go on,

I'll get some more photos when I'm round at my garage this weekend.

I needed new front wheel bearings, so thought I'd have a little bid on a set of carriers on ebay with bearings still in.

Well they arrived today and the bearings seem sound, so I'm going to clean them up, get them on and see how they go.

DSC_1065_zpspjagvfgn.jpg

DSC_1066_zpsclxyvwpn.jpg

And they cost me the princely sum of £3.19 for the pair, so thought I'd give them a shot before shelling out for new bearings.

The Mrs doesn't know it yet, but she'll be painting them this weekend.

Small update.

I modified the gear linkage to use bearings instead of the standard plastic bushes.

Started off by drilling the old pins out of the linkage.

DSC_0959_zpskdaxk4b9.jpg

Removed the bushes from the linkage, and replaced with the bearings.

DSC_0961_zpspocclb1k.jpg

Then made up some studs to replace the old pins

DSC_1071_zpsvfeoqoni.jpg

And then bolted it all together with nylock nuts, and it feels super smooth. A lot better than it did when the bushes were in there.

There was a bit of trial and error with the right size washers, but I got there in the end.

I followed the how to on Zetecinside for this, but he made it look so simple!

I've also ordered Powerflex anti roll bar, track control arms and top mount bushes, so once they arrive I'll be able to put the car on its wheels.

More updates soon.

Love it when parcels like this arrive.

I decided to go with the Powerflex bushes as I've not heard anything bad about them.

Hopefully I'll be able to get the car back on ts wheels this weekend.

More updates soon.

The Mrs won't be happy about me putting bits together in the living room, but how much better do these bushes look than the old crap ones.

ARB cleaned up, new TCA's and Powerflex poly bushes.

Super excited about getting the car back on its wheels tomorrow now.

And on a side note, the one socket I need. 24mm has mysteriously vanished from my tool box, I'm sure the tool gremlin sneak into my house and steal the tool I need just before I'm about to use it.

The Mrs found the socket today luckily, it was where I thought it was. She must have better eyes than me.

Cheers mate, here's a couple of photos of the linkage put together. I thought I posted one.

More updates tomorrow.

Thanks for the comments, the cars coming together now.

Did a few things today.

Got the suspension on with new bushes.

DSC_000001_zps6xyly3uy.jpg

DSC_000001_zpsywevrq3b.jpg

And then realised I'd made a schoolboy error by putting the TCA's on seperately from the ARB, the roll bar wouldn't go on afterwards so had to take it apart to do it all in one. Foolish

DSC_000002_zpsulfqlnmv.jpg

DSC_000001_zpsvbcr3jw3.jpg

And that's where I'm at until tomorrow, when I'll be spending my 38th birthday under the car doing as much as I can.

More updates tomorrow

Well, the Mrs and I went and did a few bits and finally got the car back on its wheels.

Few photos.

Tomorrow the front will be cleaned up and I'll hopefully get the new shifter on as i couldn't do it with the front in the air.

And I'll be able to see how low it is once the suspension has settled.

Well, I've come across an issue and its driving me daft! I can't get the B&M shifter to fit.

When I fasten the linkage and stabiliser rods to the gearbox, the shifter doesn't line up with the holes in the chassis for it.

This is how it looks, abour 5mm too far back. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it.

DSC_1120_zpsoknnugbe.jpg

Apart from that. It's back on the wheels and looking like a car again.

DSC_1132_zpsg2a0ffrb.jpg

I need to source a new set of headlights too.

The Mrs putting the bumper on while I sat in the car having a coffee. It was blowing a gale.

DSC_1121_zpssqjmuug5.jpg

It's looking a bit lower, but I hope it settle a bit more as I'd like it slightly lower than it is.

DSC_1127_zpsx4grsa6c.jpg

And a random side shot.

DSC_1124_zpsw7ejqikz.jpg

I'm hoping to get a lot more done this weekend.

Cheers for looking, and any help on the shifter issue is appreciated.
