Fitted K&N and got a photo of how the bay looks now, just some cleaning to do and I'll be happy with it until I have the funds for an engine swap.

Well, after having a bit of a hissy fit and deciding I was going to sell the Escort I had a massive change of heart, thanks to Dave Wilson and a few others on Facebook for persuading me otherwise.

So with a new found enthusiasm I'm going to get the old chap sorted.

I decided to remove the rear spoiler as it was looking a bit tired.

When i looked in the boot, imagine my surprise when I spotted this. The spoiler had been attached by the previous owner by drilling though the bootlid and putting some screws through it, and copius amounts of clear silicone sealant!!!

I couldn't believe it. So now I have some lovely holes in my boot to repair.

But I do prefer the look of it without the spoiler.

Today I'm going to the garage and removing the arches and skirts to clean them up, and I'm wondering what joy awaits me under there as I've heard horror stories of major rust hidden underneath the kit.

I'll update with more photos of my findings later.

Definitely keeping it now, I just had a bit of a strop about it.

I didn't manage to get the kit off as it was pissing down and I have the smallest garage in the world. But I did pull the drivers arch back and found this!

Both front arches look like this, so I'm fairly optimistic about the rears, I'm going to go and do more today.

DSC_0516_zpsfj4hpmdy.jpg

After a quick clean they are almost spotless, apart from the holes on the actual arch! Are they supposed to be there?

Very small update.

Suspension shown up, just waiting for my Powerflex bushes and I can get it all together.

Right, I suppose it's about time that I updated this.

Not too much has happened to be honest, been working away and busy with other non car stuff.

I decided to get underneath it to make a start with the cleaning, and lets just say it was a mess under there.

DSC_0746_zpse5815350.jpg

As you can see, it was a mess. It looks a lot better now. I'll dig the photo's out tomorrow.

My roof wasn't working properly, and getting stuck on the way down. So I had a dig about and found this.

DSC_0742_zps640f0e32.jpg

It had been bodged, hardly a surprise! The dodgy bolt had come out of the strut and was catching the bodywork. So I got that sorted and the roof works perfectly now.

Took suspension apart, hub carrier, hub, brake calipers have been derusted using this product. Deox C, this stuff is amazing and I highly recommend it.

and painted using hammerite.

DSC_0858_zps45c3983d.jpg

The bearing seal is still in the carrier, but a local garage are going to fit new bearings for me.

Oh, the Deox-C. Amazing stuff.

Got new TCA's as the balljoints in mine were shot.

And that's it for now. It's superslow going at the moment, but I'll get there.

Oh, and managed to pick up a windscreen for a tenner!

And I really like this shot so thought I'd share it.

Cheers for looking, and more detailed updates soon.

Edit - Question, has anyone had to cut their bumpstops down by 20mm when fitting Gmax suspension?

Cheers mate.

Mines the 30mm drop set, and it only came with shocks, springs, and a note to cut the bump stops down by 20mm.

After a search it seems quite a common practice to have to do so.

I put the brake caliper back together after giving it a clean and pain.

It's far from the best job, but 1000 times better than it was.

Got new discs and pads that they'll be going on with too.

Put front suspension together, just waiting for my bushes and then I can put the front end back together.

DSC_0879_zpslfpqee8e.jpg

Just wondering about one thing though, the bush kit say that it comes with an inner and outer TCA bush.

The outer is for the ARB but the inner bush on the TCA doesn't look like it's designed to come out.

This is the part I'm talking about.

DSC_0864_zpsnsyhetwl.jpg

I also found this jumble of wires under the rear seat when sorting the belts out, obviously had a decent install at some point in life.

A mates going to use the routing for power cables to put the battery in the boot when the engine gets changed.

DSC_0709_zps57519e32.jpg

And a few random shots of under the car, it's looking a bit grim under there, but a lot of parts are being replaced and being cleaned as I get round to sorting them out.

Being replaced, as are the hoses for braided items.

DSC_000001_zpssuderrfo.jpg

can actually see the linkage now I've cleaned some of the crap off there.

DSC_000001_zpstwokiudv.jpg

Downpipe and exhaust have seen better days (Soon to be replaced). And most of the crap cleaned off the sump.

Well, today I went to the garage with the intention of just cleaning a few things. But, once you get started!

Decided to take the bumper off to check for rust behind it, and there was a little! But not as bad as expected.

DSC_0880_zps0qlyatk9.jpg

DSC_0881_zpsuvch5qpt.jpg

Then decided to take the radiator out so I would have better access behind it. (It needs replacing anyway) and uncovered more grease/oil/scum than you can shake a stick at, so I'm trying to find a mobile engine steam cleaning guy to come and tackle this mess.

DSC_0883_zpsbcou4rzw.jpg

So, that's where I am at the moment! Now I've discovered how dirty it is I can't leave it like that.

On a brighter note, I pick up a B&M shifter when I'm working in Manchester next week.

More updates soon.

I'll give that stuff a shot mate.

I've also booked a guy to come and steam clean the engine and bay in a couple of weeks, so I've got to spend a day masking anything electrical up.

I definitely think it'll be worth it though.

Cheers mate. It's slowly getting there.

This is an 89, 90 spec, and red is definitely the best colour for a cabby in my opinion.

The more I do, I find more that needs doing though. But it'll be worth it in the end. I'll definitely be at some of the shows next season, I was hopeful of making a few this year but it didn't happen.

Another update later when Parcel Force show up with a small package, I'm modifying the bushes in the gear linkage to make it smoother.

Small update.

Decided to replace the plastic bushings in the gear linkage with bearings to make it smoother.
