gingergman
still some great work and progress on this. does need to be a tad lower still. as for the shifter, i cant help im afraid!
Guest Tee Morrison
Cheers mate, that's appreciated. I think it may still come down a bit yet. I hope so. As for the shifter, I'm going to loosen the mount on the gearbox cradle and jack the gearbox up a little to see if that gives me the 10mm I need to bolt it into place. But it might all go horribly wrong, so wish me luck.
Guest Tee Morrison
Well I finally got the shifter fitted, had to file the holes out in the cabin so the bolts would go in. But its fitted and finds all the gears, just needs a little fine tuning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qt9mQcKGeqA&list=UUVBccIZcDAJ9zqwx_sDYF8Q The car also looks a bit lower than it was now, although I'm sure it will settle more when its driven. I also clambered under the back of the car to get a few photos of what I have to deal with back there. Once I get the back end in the air and stripped down I'll know more about what I need to do, but there's a hell of a lot of cleaning to be done back there. Thanks for looking, and more updates soon. gingergman
back end doesnt look bad at all, just needs a good clean by the looks of it, ive seen ten times worse lol, will look brill after a freshen up. wierd why the bm didnt quite fit, i see you put it on another site, any answers on there? filing the holes would of been what id do too but id still wonder why lol
Guest Tee Morrison
Not a single answer on PF mate. I think an engine mount might be on its way out so the box had moved a bit. But its in now and ain't going anywhere. I'll be honest, I'm a bit miffed about how it all goes together on the rear so I'll be studying the Haynes manual over the next few days. It'll all be taken apart, wishbones, tie bars, ARB, etc will all be acid dipped, painted, fitted with Powerflex bushes, and all new nuts and bolts before going back together. There's so much I want to do but I'm forcing myself to concentrate on one thing at a time.
Guest Tee Morrison
Small update. Picked up a set of headlights for a good price, they're not Carello's but I'm not bothered by that after seeing the prices of them on the bay. And this won't be to everyones taste, but if we all liked the same things life would be a bit boring. The Mrs had some material left from one of her projects so I decided it would look good in the car and got her to trim the sun visors in it. I really like it. Proper updates soon. Guest Tee Morrison
Fitted the paisley visors, I really like them! And a couple of photos of the arse end. New suspension to be fitted to the rear soon so it'll be lower. Thanks for looking, and more updates soon.
RScab
Visors defo different Tee Not sure which would dazzle me more the Sun Or the Visors lol
Guest Tee Morrison
I just fancied brightening it up a touch. As no matter how much I love these cars the interior is a little bland! The doorcards are going black, and the door bins will be trimmed in black suede too. I was thinking about doing something in City blue, but that can wait till I get hold of a tin top further down the line.
Guest Tee Morrison
Decided to try and change the interior up a bit so I painted and old doorcard with a cheap can of gloss black I had lying about, and trimmed the door pocket with black faux suede. The handle will be painted to match and the insert covered in suede. When I do the new doorcard I'll do the paint properly with primer and good quality matte paint, but I'm super happy with how this has turned out. I'll post a photo of how it looks in car tomorrow. Thanks for looking.
Guest Tee Morrison
A few photos of how the doorcards look in the car. This is an old broken one that I did a quick job on. The new card will be primered and painted properly in Halfords matte black, which is a perfect match with the black on the dashboard as this stuff is way too glossy. Guest Jay-L
Looks great mate! Hope mine comes out looking as fresh as yours! Can i ask what exhaust uve got fitted?
Guest Tee Morrison
Cheers mate, that's appreciated. It was a Peco DTM when I got it, and now it's Scorpion 3" Inwardly rolled backbox I picked up on ebay for £20. It'll be having a full system eventually, but this will do for now. Guest Jay-L
Just had a full look through of your resto and its quality work mate, looks really nice and at the same time a tad different with those alloys! Well done and keep up the good work
Guest Tee Morrison
It's slowly getting there. I'm definitely trying to make it a bit different. I love the Euro look that the VW's pull off so well so I'm trying to go a similar route. It's taking me longer than I first anticipated though., but it'll be worth it in the end. Andyman
Hi Tee, just wondered if you have got any recent pics of your car, interested in ride height. Im thinking of ordering a set of G-MAX, did you order the XR or RS kit??? And would you recommend them?? Cheers Andy
Guest Xr3iInUS
Car looks great! Where did you get the headlghts?
Guest Tee Morrison
Cheers for the comments guys. Andyman, this is the set I ordered. http://www.g-maxsuspension.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=650&category_id=59&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1 I can't recommend them yet as I haven't driven the car on them, it's still holed up in my garage. But they seems well made and they went on without any issues. I'll pull it out and get a few more photos at the weekend if it's dry mate. Xr3iInUS - i picked up the headlights on eBay, they're not Carellos but they'll do for now. Small update - doorcards. They're not 100% perfect, but I'm happy with them for now. And also bagged a new head unit for a tenner from a mate! Much better than the old Clarion rubbish that's in there at the moment. Guest Xr3iInUS
That is ALMOST identical to mine! If it can run a CD changer, you can get an adapter that will allow you to play your phone through it. I think mine is a CDS-9601, but the buttons looke the same. I was going to actually get something newer for the XR3i, that will allow me to plug my phone in through the front, or at least have a normal AUX input (mine is from 2003). I just had to rewire it over the weekend as the phone cable kept cutting out the left speakers. I don't like the new look but I'm happy all my speakers work again. Guest Tee Morrison
I just picked it up as a short term replacement for the older than me Clarion that's in there at the moment. It'll be replaced with a brand new one once the cars on the road. My knowledge on car audio is practically zero, as long as it sounds half decent I'm happy. Guest EVOXR3ICABBY
Hi,i put a Sportex 4 branch and full exhaust on my 1989 xr3i cabby and you can tell the difference in the way it drives with it on and also sounds nice.
Guest Tee Morrison
I'm not personally into the Sportex systems myself. I'll be getting a full stainless system built up once I've done the engine conversion. Although I'm not too sure on when that will be! Guest Tee Morrison
Just a small update. Went and fitted the new'ish head unit. Looks and sounds a lot better. Andyman, a couple of photos for you of how it sits at the moment. The front is -30mm but the rear hasn't been touched yet. I'm going to run 10mm spacers on there too. I also discovered that this lives in the garage two doors down from me. Amazing condition, F plate, and the fella has owned it for the past 23 years. He''s been briefed that if he ever wants to sell it to let me know. His reply was, you can have it for free when I'm dead! Seems reluctant to sell. And a question, what is this? And where in the blue hell does it go?
gingergman
Amazing what is tucked away in garages! Looks like temperature sender plug to me, right hand side of the head top corner
Guest Tee Morrison
Cheers mate, I'll have a look at that today. There was a bit of smoke coming from near the thermostat when it was running yesterday, so i gather it has something to do with that.
