Is there any who can give me some good advice I have a 1989 xr3i cabby engine rebuilt 18thou ago all tho alternator belt went and the engine cut out and would not start back had mecanic out and he said it bent my valves.. would it be better to just change top end or does any 1 have one for sale in west midlands area many thanks

Or do you mean the timing belt went. The alternator belt shouldnt lead to bent valves.

If its the timing belt, you can get away with changing the valves or an exchange cylinder head. IIRC when this happened to my bro's XR3i some years ago, all I did was change the belt and had no problems.

Yes timing belt sounds more lyk it I hope just a change of belt helps thanks will get the belt today isit easy enuff to do thanks

It would of bent a few valves after the pistons smashing into them, if you was going fast id say its fooked. My friends escort van belt snapped last year, at idle speed and I was amazed he got away with a new belt. Don't hold your breath on yours though,

Yh it happened when pulling out off of a junction shes going weston super mare to get sorted just gna get top end rebuilt water pump timing kit she should be purring again soon lol even tjo she broke my heart lol
