Guest Tatty Taylor Posted July 4, 2012 Share Posted July 4, 2012 Good Evening All Have recently replaced my steering rack(mark6/7) due to leaking seals. Removed subframe,track rod ends as advised removed old rack , fitted new rack ,reconnected subframe ,connected track rod ends etc etc ,road tested and all seemed ok. Couple of days later a knocking noise started from what seems the offside front area,so i checked all connections and changed track rod ends as a precaution. Put it all back together(again) and after a while(mile or two) the knocking was back. It seems to come and go but is quite bad when its there .There was no noise before i changed the rack so i can only guess thats its something i have missed somewhere, hence this post. Can anyone throw any light on what i might be missing... only thing i have been asked is "have i torqued up the bolts" i have not done this but they were all tightened up with brute force. Guest Lee81 Posted July 4, 2012 Share Posted July 4, 2012 Could be lots of things but main ones to check are That the wishbone arm bolts are fully tightened and they will come loose if old parts are reused without new thread lock. The bushes on the antiroll bar are fully tightened. Steering rack is tightened with all hoses, pipes and clips routed as before. Failing those I check exhaust system is back in correct place and check cv joints.
