hi guys  ive just put my cabby through the mot which it failed on the hand brake..........is the any reason why it would keep pulling the cable out of the bracket under the car?...............also when i have tryed to adjust it it has very little effect.the cables seam free enough but can they stretch or could the shoes be at fault? cheers guys

If the rear shoes / mechanism on the rear are seized or sticking the cables underneath would go slack possibly causing the cables to come out.

Though i've never seen them come out.

I'd take the drums off, get some new shoes and clean and lube as required. If you still have a problem replace the handbrake cables. Even buying new cables and shoes wont come to much (only around £60). The shoes should only take 2 hours to fit on a drive. The cables though might be difficult to do without use of a lift

cheers lee. had the drums off today to have a look and the mechanism is all free although the shoe linings look a little low so i bought a new set of shoes and one of the linings is alot thicker than the other one............wondering if its had a set fitted that wernt a pair on either side before i got it? the cables wernt loose and they pulled out of the brackets over time when the handbrake was put on.gunna fit the shoes tomorrow and see how things go

use a needle file to clean the teeth on the adjusters and clean off all rust then smear sliding faces with grease. make sure the handbrake inspection plugs aren't fouling the end of the levers too. hand brake cables can stretch so just get a new one and you should be good
