Hello folks,

I haven't been on here very much for years now and my mk3 cab has sat dormant for most of that time in limbo whilst I got on with my life. However, work restarted a couple of months ago and steady progress is now being made again. So in a blatent attempt to keep my enthusiasm up, here's a selection of photos of the 27yr old car.

It made it onto the road for a few months with this engine and although the car drove really well, it really neded more go. So it came back off the road for more work. It ended up with half an engine fitted for the best part of seven years. But now it looks more like this:

I am just approaching the final stages of wiring in the engine loom. Then the fuel plumbing, brake servo pipe, engine breather and finaly the intake pipe.

Then I'll discover that the fuel tank is full of rust and that the fuel pump has seized!

Cheers, though it's no so shiny at the moment. I also forgot to add this photo. This is pretty much it's current appearance. Apart from the paints a bit flat at the moment.

  • 8 months later...

Thought I'd add an update:

The fuel system plumbing is now complete apart from the manufacture of a bracket to secure the fuel filter. The tanks proved not to be full of rust (so now is approx 2/3 full of petrol) and the pump appears to be in good health. Better still there are no leaks or smells of petrol fumes.

A lot of surplus stereo wiring has been removed to ease congestion down the sill cover plates and to simplify things.

The alarm system wiring has been refurbished and in some areas re-routed to make tidier and to 'loose' in the main vehicle electrics.

Speaking of electrics, the engine wiring is almost finished complete with new auxiliary fusebox. But sadly the system is dead at present. There are no signs of life with even the management light inactive.

I am working on this at the moment and hoping that I haven't been sold a dud ECU (unlikely).

I have about 60% of the parts required for the induction system and have not yet tackled the rest of the cooling system plumbing or breather system plumbing.

The brake servo vacuum pipe is now connected.

So the present job list is:

Coax the engine management into life.

Complete induction system.

Complete cooling system.

Complete exhaust system.

Connect throttle cable (somehow, square peg/round hole)

Refit dashboard and seats.

Additional:

I now have a couple of small rust scabs to treat and unfortunately a roof skin to replace following a split seam.

Pics to follow if anyones interested.
