Guest Rustler
Hi..... Have just renewed the discs, pads, flex pipes (HEL S/S) and o'hauled the cylinders on my Mk5 1992 130ps 1.8 cabby...260mm vented front discs and rear disc/drums as per RS2000.....( don't think it's ABS, as no wheel sensors or elect pump,M/Cyl rectangle 80x135mm) Just going to refill and bleed system with "CASTROL RESPONSE SUPER DOT 4" useing a GUNSON EEZIBLEED KIT.. but.. seems to be a conflict on the bleed sequence....GUNSONS say start at wheel furthest away from M/Cyl, & finish at nearest... HAYNES say start F/Left then R/Right,then F/Right ,and R/Left....... Any 1 any idea as to which is the better bleed method,??....Is this CASTROL "S" DOT 4 Ok for this system??...also should I have fitted shims behind the new pads....as there were no shims supplied with pads??? Thanks PEPS in advance for any replys to my prob'....... "Rustler".
gingergman
i allways thought you started furthest away from the master cylinder then worked your way closer, id do it the gunson way

Guest Rustler
yeah furthest away first is how I've always done it too. Yea.. Thanks guys...have just bleed them but found "NO PEDAL"........... I think that having left the system open for a couple of weeks whilst overhauling the front calipers and waiting for the rears to arrive from Uk, all the fluid had drained from the M/CYL and has therefore caused a M/C prob and won't bleed properly till something's done to rectify the M/C prob..whatever that is BLOODY BRAKES,,,,,,,Rustler... Guest Rustler
hey rus how ya gettin on wiv the air lock? Hi Avul....Yea.. all OK now!! A mate of mine ,an ex, Volvo/L,Rover fitter who's just retired over here to France, came over to give me a hand with a few other minor jobs on the CABBY. He said "Do It The Old Tried And Tested Way"....2 man jobbie, which we did and have now got a "GOOD PEDAL"............So we're now all fit to go on this Classic/Veteran car run on Sunday....The CABBIES first full day out of it's stable since I bought it back in October 2009,and we "WILL" be driving "TOPLESS"..even if it chuck's it down...................................Had to take the CABBY into the Ford Main Dealer yesterday to get it checked over for a "Certificate of Conformaty" ....in order to apply for FREACH registration.....We were very pleased and somewhat "FLATTERED" to find all the service bay fitters stop work an crowd around our CABBY.......I think most of them would have been in short pants when she left the GERMAN factory in April 1992.. ....................Any Way, M8, Thanks for your interest and other topic on Bleeding Brakes................. ---------------Regards .......Rustler....."The Oldest Cabbier"....(YEA ..78yrs young on Monday !!)
