gingergman
hi all, just fort id start up a topic on my mk4 as from last saturday it came off the road for the winter, and i will be doing bodywork on it. i was trying to find it a home for winter for awhile, its ended up in my grans garage lol, il be working on it 1-2 times a week so hopefully get it done and painted again for show season, i took loads of pics and il keep updating with pics as i go on, took the rear bumper off and the back is still nice and solid, only rust is just at the edge of the rear arches, only bubbly and not rotten, the bumper hid most of it, so thats on my list to sort!! i changed the bonnet over for a rst bad boy style one what ive been working on for awhile, still needs a little work to be spot on and ive gotta weld up two holes where bonnet pins use to be! i took the front bumper off knowing it was quite rotten as it was quite bad when i removed it last year, some nice holes . . . . . took the boot and spoiler off and then the roof . . . . im curruntly smoothing a rear bumper and ive got a front bumper what i done last year, a open mouth 90spec fully smoothed one, il put a pic up when i get one of it as its in my mums spare bedroom lmao !! if anyones interested im selling the old xr3i bonnet, boot and spoiler, front bumper and m3 mirrors, just pm me !! thats it to start, il update as i go on!!! stuart. Guest BIGMADRAB1
looks sweet apart from the obvious rust but not too bad considering the age. im doing my mk4 at the moment, put it in the garage 2 months ago but time is an issue and ive only stripped the dash and lights so far. plans are to rebuild a low miles 2.0 zetec engine, re-form dash and instrument panel to accompany tv/dvd/sat nav and all sorts of other shite, new carpet, re-upholster seats and sort out dings and dents. pretty much want a mk4 i can take to shows and use as a hobby (avoid the missus). always been a fan so living the dream, but so far the project is moving slowy to say the least. anyways onwards and upwards. bad boy bonnet looks good on mk4s, ive done mine using existing xr3i bonnet and not covering the full angle of the headlight. but need to sort out turbo vents and maybe centre air scoop, would've been easier to buy turbo bonnet but still grinfactor is all that counts. spent the last two days in work designing and manufacturing a custom stainless steel dash istrument panel only to find the lockwood panel on ebay for £17.00. still mine will be unique with personalized engraving. either way maybe see you at a show sometime, live in scotland so next year will be doing the distance. Exactly why i was thinking of de-locking mine, i would go barmy if some nice person decided to wragg my door lock off, i have enough disco alarm lights flashing inside, but unfortunately that doesnt stop some plank damaging the car. Guest Cabbytech
Well im not going to respray mine until next year so i have time to think about de-locking it, but i think i will need some type of mechanical entry system just incase i have a complete remote locking failure lol. gingergman
well, i fort it was about time i updated this, its been going slow due to problems at home and of corse we had christmas etc, not to mention the cold weather!! the main things i wanna do is the welding to the front panel, two holes in the bonnet from previous bonnet pins and the hole from the aerial as thats getting smoothed over, il do the welding in april when its hopefully warmer and il have time off work! ill post a few pics tonight and some more over the next couple of days! the main pain in my arse was when i finished the front of the bonnet ad i haddent put the catch on it yet an while holding it up at top height i dropped the bugger, cracking both badboy bits, fu*ker!! so had to start that again and still havent finished it lol!! anyways, ill post pics ow then more tomo of some of the parts ive got for it over the last couple of months!! gingergman
thanks mate shes never for sale, ive spent a bomb on it already before this little refresh resto lol, welding the bonnet for the bad boy part is fairly easy, doing the filler work is just boring lol, open mouth bumper with the bonet just looks sooo mean in my opinion!
