He guys, Im in the process of fitting a new Hawk car alarm on a standard MK6 and there are a few things on the wiring diagram that are confusing me:

1) On of the wires is supposed to connect to the positive of the ENGINE START CHECK - Where/what is this

2) On of the wires is supposed to connect to the positive of the FOOT BRAKE - Where would i find this wire?

3) The new engine immobiliser relay should connect to the STARTER MOTOR SOLENOID or FUEL PUMP RELAY and the BATTERY - Im a little confused by the diagram, can anyone help?

Here is the scan of the wiring diragram, i hope it helps you in helping me :-)

Thanks in advance

Ken

Current task: connecting the door trigger

issue: it doesnt seem to send 12v... when i test the single wire that is connected to the trigger it never gets anywhere near 12v. if i put the negative to ground and the positive to the wire while openeing and closing the door (just the switch) then nothing happens - however if i connect the positive to a 12v source and the negative i get the same

Surely this cant be right???

Oh my god, i cant believe how difficult every little thing is with this car, nothing at all like my BMW, i assumed the ford would come apart easier but that is not the case

After i failed to get the door trigger, i moved on to the rest of the alarm and with most of the dash off i decided i would need the rest out as well so i started to take the steering wheel off. and according to the haines manual there is two bolts on the back of the steering wheel, but for the life of me i cannot get any of my sockets to grip it and turn it.

This is rediculas and is really starting to get me annoyed - damn car!

The socket is 4.5 mm and once these bolts are undone ( they don't come out completely ) the air bag will pull off with a slight tug, remove the yellow plug that goes into the air bag - place that to one side, undo the 3 pozi screws that are visable upon removing the air bag ( this attaches the airbag clock spring to the steering wheel ) you need to undo this from the steering wheel BEFORE you try and remove it, else it will come apart and won't go back together again correctly.

indo the 15mm bolt ( make sure your key is in the AUX position ) then pull the steering wheel towards you gentally.

Thanks SiV6Si, knowing that the bolts dont completely come off was a big help, however i dont have a 4.5mm socket and the kit i bought especially from halfords yesterday had 7/32 which could be about right but it was missing from the kit and they were closed by that time.

So in the end, after a massive weekend of scratched knuckles and many swear words i put the car back together to leave it for next weekend. mainly so i can do some more research on specifically which wires to tap into.

So today i will make a list of all the wires i need and hopefully people on here can help me decipher where to get them from and what colour they are.

Thanks again

Ken

Not recieved a pm mate?

Doh! - ok well ill finish doing some more research and come back with some specific questions as not to waste your time.

At least by the end of this i should be able to write a pretty comprehensive guide if that would be useful

Cheers

Ken

Hey guys, right i have put together a list of the wires that i need to find inside the car.

Any help or guidance will be greatly apprecieated.

Main Harness:

1a Door input Only if its a negative closure system (I think the escort is a positive system)

1b Door input Only if its a positive closure system

1c Handbrake Cable

1d Hazard output

1e Hazard output

1f Siren

1g Ignition Used to confirm when engine is started or not, Can connect to tachometer or oil light or charging battery line

1h Foot brake Positive when footbrake is pressed

1I Immobiliser

Secondary harness

2a Ground

2b Second ignition output Connect to first accessory of ignition switch (+12v)

2c Ignition Output Connects to main ignition wire that provides 12v when the ignition is on and while cranking the starter

2d Starter wire Connects to the vehicles starter wire

2e Power

Immobiliser Relay

3a Main Harness

3b first accessory of ign Connect to first accessory of ignition switch (+12v)

3c Starter Motor Normally closed - can be connected to the starter moter , positive side of coil, for diesel car fuel pump

3d Starter Motor Normally closed - can be connected to the starter moter , positive side of coil, for diesel car fuel pump (Im actually a bit confused by these two wires and where they go from the diagram in the 3rd post. they are the two green wires from the relay.)

The ones i need help with have the red text next to them.

I dont have an issue with finding the door pin wire (1b) but i am confused by it. because being a positive system it should send a positive signal of 12v when the door is open. but using a multi meter and using the back of the door pin, i couldnt get the it to get anywhere near 12v going through the cable.

So if you guys could help me out with where to find each cable and an indication of what colour it is, i would greatly appreciate it.

On a positive note i have found quite a few generalized articles on how to install an alarm so the guide is coming along nicely, just need to be able to make it escort specific now with the above wire locations and its sorted for others to use.

Ok well i managed to get the alarm fitted and tested and all back together. the only part i didn't install was the remote start as that was never really the reason for the fitting.

but the car now has a fully working alarm and remote central locking which was the basis for this install.

I have gotten loads of info/tutorials about this from various websites over the last couple of weeks, so i have put together a little document () well its actually 20 odd pages lol) most of it is pretty generic and because i didn't install the remote start there are some large sections which i didnt use.

The bits at the beginning are escort MK6 specific and then everything in Red is what i did during the actual install. sorry i didn't take any pics but it took long enough without stopping to take photos every 2 minutes lol

I have uploaded the file here as i have just managed to get it under 300k. if you have any questions then please let me know.

Thanks

Ken
