Hey everyone

I really need your help, I have a 92 escort cabby mk5 xr3i, I recently took it for its mot and it failed but only on a few bits not too bad

one of the fails was an inefective handbrake, when Ive had a look it needs some new brake shoes which I thought would be streight forward

But heres the problem, my cabby is fitted with brake discs on the rear which as ive found out is quite rare, Im having trouble finding someone that stocks these shoes

the ford dealership tell me that the shoes have been discontinued and would need to try aftermarket parts

Ive asked in various garages and parts shops and they all say the same thing

I am led to believe this is a conversion to either the rs turbo brakes or the rs 2000 but i have no idea :help:

can anyone help

p.s also my idicators are flashing over 120 times a minute, ive checked the earths without success any ideas

Including ford as the just say :

At the risk of sounding stupid, where is the relay located on the car?

The RS2k/XR3i rear disc brake shoes have been discontinued as you have said. I think one manufacturer makes them, cant remember, but ti would be a long search on google. Your easiest bet is to get them relined by a brake relining specialist or buy some used ones from JD motorsport.

They very rarely wear down and is part the reason why Ford discontinued them. Unless the person was driving with the handbrake on partially or doing handbrake skid turns!!

Hi mate,

There is a compnay where i work that makes brake shoes. I will be able to get them lined for you. But i will need your old shoes. I have had an old Austin 7 shoes re lined. Let me know. Strangley enough it is cheaper than buying new shoes.

As others have said, i'd be surprised if they are worn, more likely to be out of adjustment. They can, in theory, be adjusted without removing the disc by poking about with a screwdriver through a hole in the back-plate. I found it easier to drop the disc off and adjust by hand. It also gives you a chance to clean everything up and slap some copperslip about.

If you definitely need shoes, try Brake Parts Superstore. I'm pretty sure they do the handbrake shoes for the mk5.
