Roof Fit Problem

Hi

I bought a roof from an L registered cab from this car on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=016

But when i fitted it i could not get it to close, the rubbers on the back quarter windows were about two inches short at the top and the whole roof was around 4 inches short at the front, it was as if the distance between the back bottom of the roof is higher than on my H cab, making it shorter, if you can understand what i mean.

Theres no way i could get this to fit. Did the roof or body slightly change between these years?

Do i need to get a roof from a similar year?

i got the roof, clear indicators and towbar for £90 which was a very good price i thought but am so cheesed off it dont fit.

Anyone throw any light on why this roof just would not fit?

when i had my new roof fitted recently the guy put a ratchet strap on the front and around the door hinge then 'winched' it closed. I was then instructed to keep it closed for a week until it settled otherwise i'd never get it to close properly.

apparently it's not a problem in Summer as the vinyl stretches easily

Hi Guys,

Brutus has pretty much knocked this one on the head, Mk5a, Mk5b and Mk6 roofs all fit each other, but unless its fitted by a specialist the vinal roofs shink in the cold and are harder to fit, any one of the Peeps who have a vinal roof will know that your roof pretty much falls down in the summer but its stiff and creaks in the winter !!!

If you have any probs mate if might be worth popping along to your nearest roof fitter for a finishing touch of finesse !!!Thumbs_up.gif

Thanks for that, at least i know they all should fit. I still have to get another one as i ripped it getting it back out, DOh

Will either wait till the summer or find a garage or building where i can warm everything up and keep it warm until its fitted and stretched etc.

The only other thing was because the car it came off had a rear bump, a bad one at that, had it twisted the frame of the roof at the back, could this be why it was not fitting.

At one point i did manage to do up the front clamps but the top was about 3 inches short and it still didnt meet the back windows, also nearly pulled the trim off the back where the cover clips on
