  1. What foolishness are you talking? How on earth would anyone put solar panels on, then when the roof folds down. I guess you are a spammer or something, no one in their right mind would ask such a question.
  2. As I have not been using my Escort, the roof was leaking as the cover needs to change, been nearly 20 years I have had it. So purchased this half roof cover on ebay. It was hard to find something the size of the car, but this seems to have done the trick. It also comes with a carry bag. 3. The Escorts in the US were NOT identical and hardly used any parts to the European one. IMO they are inferior, I worked on one when living over there and it was primitive compared to the European ones. However you can get many parts for European Fords in the US or even Saudi Arabia. There are warehouses that purchase a lot of genuine stock from Fords when it comes to car end of life and then they sell them years later. Just make sure the code is the same and it looks identical
  4. Nice car, probably easier to sell it on ebay or gumtree

    Mk5

The XR3i's are all ZETEC. There is two versions, one being 105bhp, the other 130 bhp and are 1.8cc. The only cvh are 1.6 and 1.4 in the mk5 but are in standard trim spec cars.
  6. Get an auto electrician to check it out. Something definitely is not right with the fusebox or an earthing.
  7. Just watching wheeler dealers on Quest (freeview) channel 12. They are doing a rebuild on a mk4 . It is series 17 episode 1
  8. Well, you have not listed the history of the car, servicing etc. bit of a hard one to say. Most flat spots are caused by ignition or fuelling problems. If you get Gunsons 3 pine fault code reader, it would be able to throw up a code. I would not be surprised it to do with the idle speed control vavle.
  9. Shame it has come to this. Maybe, you may have to end up selling it.
  10. It can be done, but I guess people do not bother with it as there are so many choices of other engines to put in and gain more power. It would be easier to put a 1.6 turbo from a newer Ford with standalone aftermarket engine management.
  11. Wow, that is a huge shock. At that price it is definitely worth doing it yourself now.
  12. The mk6 is Piston Heads shed of the week https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-features-sheds/ford-escort-cabriolet-shed-of-the-week/47453
  13. You need to adjust the arms on the roof close handle on both sides. The hook style pegs screws in and out of the handle assembly. Just adjust each end one turn in either direction and keep trial closing it, until you get it right.
  14. Best soft top cleaners 2023 Fabric hoods need special care to clean and protect. We find the best combination https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product-group-tests/90391/best-soft-top-cleaners-2023 Looking after your car’s exterior is important and never more so than when it comes to a fabric soft-top. Like your paintwork, it’s constantly subject to the ravages of rain, snow, sun, airborne detritus, bird lime and tree sap. On a car that you use regularly, it’s advisable to clean and reproof the roof twice a year. This is important because mildew in effect ‘eats’ the roof, causing it to rot and need replacing sooner. When attending to your roof, don’t work in direct sunlight and treat the entire area to avoid a patchy finish. Some products need the roof to be damp and others have to be left for a while before removing – so check carefully. Test an inconspicuous area for colour fastness and remove loose dirt using a stiff brush or vacuum before starting. How we tested them Autotrim (autotrimmer.co.uk) kindly supplied an old hood for our test. We brushed it off before applying the cleaners/proofers as per the makers’ instructions. It was left in the open, where it was under attack from all forms of weather and the local wildlife. At the end of the test period, we awarded marks for the effectiveness of the products, as well as their ease of use and value for money. Verdict With a new proofer formula and perfect performance, the Gtechniq pair stay at the top. But the new Turtle Wax combo pushes them hard, with Protex balancing performance and price in third spot.
