  3. Its a shame really to use the RS as a doner but its too late, I went inside to make a cuppa, came out and my mate had cut a reasonable size side section out to use as a repair panel, if I could I'd save both but so much time and efforts gone into making Scabby solid, its the one going back on the road. Havent lifted the carpet in the RS yet but I'm guessing that by the state of the seats and runners it may be for the best that it gives its life to save another. No idea on the gold colour code/name, sorry.
  4. O/S Rear 1/4 N/S Rear 1/4 Got a bit carried away, looks ugly but nothing that cant be sorted.
  5. Lancaster gave me an agreed valuation of 18k on my camper van, for £130. self certified through a local vw restoration company, all I had to do was get them to sign a piece of headed paper to the effect of a description and saying what it was worth and supply 6 photos. cab is currently sorned but costs £150 through Lancaster with 3000miles.
  6. I paid £500 for my 89 tennis nearly 3 years ago with no t&t and that's also a project. ive also just brought a 90 plate cabby with full rst running gear, loads of trick bits and a new roof for £800 with no t&t as a project, more than I wanted to spend but its got what I want. hope this can serve you as a guideline. glwts.
  7. sorry about the pics, I will find them soon, the mrs has been moving things round on the pc. So, whats been happening, not much to be fair, summer has seen me very busy with work and holidays and a couple of festivals. But.... I have been closely watching the bay again looking for an rst as a donor, and well, I came across this in Bradford and collected it today. Lots of goodies on it I can use, a fair few bits I can sell on and whats left I can move on to the scrap man. I was going to put it on the road and carry on with the resto of Scabby, but the time, effort and cash needed, its just not going to happen, Pics.
  8. youre right I am being a little slack on the piccie side of things, will try get some up soon.
  9. taking a couple weeks out now to prep and mot a 99V vw boring I was given for free. should make a nice penny or two and provide ample cash input to supply the donor when I find one.
  10. long story short as its been a few weeks since my last update. have many pics but havent got round to sorting them yet. inner wings on, cross member on, front panel on, numerous tin worm holes repaired, welded, filled, smoothed and seam sealed, some sill repairs and some undersealing. few more sill repairs to go and rear arches to go and small repairs to rear corners. then completely strip everything else off and prep for paint. hope to be looking out soon for an rs doner vehicle.
  11. so this sundays aim was to remove the wiring loom so we had complete access to the engine bay to start the clean up. first up I noticed some paint peel at the air intake to the cabin so I began peeling and revealed a gaping hole covered with silicone sealent, more cutting out and replacing with good metal to be done. then it took 6 hours to remove the complete loom so ran out of time. my mate curly got the grinder out with a flap disc and had a quick go at one or two surface rust spots and i had a sigh of relief as thats all it was, surface rust. quick dusting with a rattle can and thats where it ended. no pics im afraid as we were to occupied/busy with the wiring.
  12. cheers for the tip, thread makes a good read and inspiring too, well done.
  13. New front end now orderd for Scabby, new inner wing repait sections, new outer wings, slam panel and cross member, already have new RS bonnet and genuinvents also got a powdercoated subrame/tow eye cheap on ebay. Total spent so far £250. restoration on a budget :-)
  14. So the engine came out this weekend, plenty of swearing and grazed knuckles but its out, no pics as battery died but a friend took some so will get them later. off out tonight to take the engine hoist back from where it was borrowed and on the way back will be picking up a brand new rs bonnet ive sourced for £40. next job, remove the rest of engine bay items and clean up.
  15. Anyone had experience with rollover jigs? have been toying with the idea but dont know how the body would stand with being turned over and twisting. Wheres the best place to source panels from?
  16. tbf the inner wings seem fairly solid so we have decided to keep them with a few patch repairs here and there. scuttle panel also seems more solid than at first look so thats staying and being patched. next job is to remove the front crossmember, can anyone tell me if this should be braced before its removed?? parts to source list: front crossmember front panel (does this come with bonnet slam panel??) bonnet slam panel N/S & O/S front wings Can anyone reccomend somewhere for panels, reasonably priced and fair quality? After this it seems the engine and loom should come out so the entire engine bay can be cleaned and repaired as nesecary and the crossmember once sourced can go back in. then front panel and slam panel before making a decision on wether to repai or replace the a pillar posts and then wings back on. Has anyone got any hints/tips for removing the engine and loom?
  17. Update: sunday 17th feb 2013.
  18. Plans for this weekend include getting in behind the front wings to see what lurks in the darkness, then I will be able to give a better idea. Tho I think its going to have a new front panel, new front outer wings, maybe inner wings, sill repairs, new scuttle panel, A pillar repairs inc at bottom of windscreen, new inner and outer n/s/r arches, and probably the same on the o/s/r, and repairs to the rear panel.Doors look ok but need closer inspection. little things like rubbers etc will probably need replacing. Boot lid looks good but there is cracking to the spoiler. repair or replace arch trims and skirts. front bumper needs replacing rear bumper looks good. bonnet needs replacing and will go with a std RS replacement. Strip and remove as much yellow as possible. Paint is narrowed down to two choices, white with matching tiger stripes as my fiesta (see my rides post) or mercury grey. Hope to source a complete RS set up engine etc once body nears completion, RS wheels but will probably go coilovers for suspension. think thats about it as far as plans go.
