  1. Looks tidy, like the two tone theme. I'd replace the bumper strips with black ones but that's just me Lee
  2. Get yourself a Payen branded gasket. It's the original ford part. There's a top guy on eBay "Gaskets for Classics" that does them at a very reasonable price. When I first built my engine it leaked from the same place. Had the head skimmed locally and I refitted it, it's been fine since. Lee
  3. Looking good! Any chance she'll be ready for this summer? Lee
  4. Finally, we'll overdue, she has an MOT! As I've been working away a lot recently I set my Dad on the advisories and retest and he sorted it all out. Rolling road tune booked for Saturday May 3rd then she's all set for the summer. Can't wait now, it's been a long time coming... Lee
  5. Had a very productive day on the cabby on Friday. I fitted the breather which cured my idle problem (finally!) sorted an issue with the bonnet latch and tidied up a little. I even plucked up the courage to take her for an MOT on Saturday. Sadly she failed on a split CV boot and 2 corroded brake pipes, easily fixed though! Lee
  6. Sounds like you've got it all covered. Anything much above stage 1 (165 spec) where an EFi XR3i is used as a base, you'll need an uprated pump. I believe there are pumps that are direct fit like the Escort Cossie pump (Don't quote me on that!) That's the one bonus of using an MFi XR3i as a base, the pump is more than capable of handling it! Lee
  7. I have to say, I've never heard of that. The scorpion that was fitted to mine when I got it was welded up, maybe they suffer from it. The mongoose I run on mine has never had a problem and it's only ever been fitted with just clamps, but it does have the additional rear mounting. Lee
  8. The only reason you'd need to use OFAB is to run more than 1 BAR of boost. I'm going to say at that spec with 183BHP it was only running 1 BAR max, or it was badly set up. Don't forget, to run the 701's and more than 10 Psi of boost you will also need a "Stage 2" or "195" chip. Lee
  9. You can use an Escort engine with Fiesta management, that's what I did. But that's where it would start getting expensive. If you use an Escort engine you will need some kind of crank position pickup. You could either drill the block and use a Fiesta flywheel or you could make a pulley from a Sierra CVH fit like I did, but the costs will add up either way. If I were starting with a clean slate, I'd use a Fiesta Engine. Lee
  10. Damn it I knew I'd miss something! You will need an intercooler and rad combo from an Escort RS Turbo. Standard injectors on a Fiesta RS Turbo and XR3i EFi are the same. Coming to think about it, you'll need a charge carrier, suitable rocker cover and boost pipes too. Lee
  11. Looks in great nick. I'd run it as it is looks wise. Engine wise get her turbo'd. Lee
  12. As I said earlier in another thread, it depends how much power you're looking to run. To make it nice and simple and if you only want up to 200BHP ish then get an OFAC ECU. Then all you'll need is: OFAC ECU OFAC MAP sensor (Part Number: V90FB 9F479 AA) Fiesta RS Turbo engine Fiesta RS Turbo ACT Sensor (should be on the inlet manifold of the above) Fiesta RST T2 Turbo Exhaust System And you're off! Everything else is already on your XR3i There should be no changes to a late XR3i EFi loom (like mine) to run OFAC. With some earlier EFi looms you will need to check the that the CO signal wire goes to pin 27 of the ECU and the MAP signal wire goes to pin 45 of the ECU. Other than that you're golden. Lee
  13. Hello Mate, take a look here: http://passionford.com/forum/ford-escort-rs-turbo/293875-what-do-i-need-to-convert-my-mfi-rs-turbo-to-run-efi-updated-17-07-2013-a.html It's a "How to" I wrote for converting an MFi RS Turbo to EFi. What sort of power are you after? If you're not planning anything over 200BHP then I would go for the OFAC ECU. For a "Standard" setup you'll need: OFAC ECU OFAC MAP sensor (Part Number: V90FB 9F479 AA) Fiesta RS Turbo bottom end Fiesta RS Turbo camshaft Fiesta RS Turbo ACT Sensor Fiesta RST T2 Turbo Exhaust System And you're off! Everything else is already on your XR3i There should be no changes to a late XR3i EFi loom (like mine). With some earlier EFi looms you will need to check the that the CO signal wire goes to pin 27 of the ECU and the MAP signal wire goes to pin 45 of the ECU. Lee
  14. Looking good mate. I've been thinking of painting my engine bay satin black, looks pretty good! You should see quite a difference with the scorpion if you ran a '3i pipe before. But I hope you like your exhausts loud... Lee
  15. I had another day down the garage on the weekend. Managed to get quite a lot done in fairness. I re-fitted the head and it started first time... With no leaks but the bonnet won't close now and it has a puncture I think I've sussed the poor idle too, I blanked off the vacuum hoses that come from the inlet manifold directly below the throttle body (The ones that usually go to the oil breather). Apparently these are needed for the idle??!! Jobs to do: Fit Turbo Cooler Sort Bonnet Latch Sort Puncture Re-fit oil breather MOT Clean and hoover Drive Here are a few more recent pics: Cheers! Lee
  16. I agree, I spent ages repairing and identifying the wiring when I swapped my MFi loom for EFi. If you're having to put a new loom and engine in, my suggestion would be to go for EFi. Nice upgrade path to RS Turbo engine or AN Other electronic injection engine in future. Lee
  17. An update on recent developments! I think I found the issue setting base idle. Basically the head was warped and had one bent exhaust valve. I tried everything and couldn't sort it. I noticed that it had developed an oil leak from between the head and block so sent it away to be tested. I'm surprised it ran as well as it did! I've now got it back after having a skim, new valve and 4 new exhaust valve seats cut. Just need to fit it and test it. Just spotted your comment. The pics were taken at the end of April 2011 just before my brother sold it to Laren. I read on PF that it was EFi turbo now. Me and my bro had some laughs with that Orion! Lee
  18. Cheers Mate, The wiring wasn't too bad, I'm handy with a multimeter, soldering iron and heatshrink which helped. I just wanted to make additions to the '3i EFi loom and I repaired any issues. I've since taped it all up and you wouldn't know it wasn't OEM. Found some more issues the other week, I had to replace the Camshaft oil seal as it was accumulating oil on the lip and I've found a small water leak from one of the pipes on the water pump. The jubilee clip won't tighten any more so I need to replace it with a smaller one. Lee
  19. Cheers lads! Well, as is always the case, the car is never without drama... A month ago I spent a few days on the car. I replaced the gearbox with my old XR3i one and that sorted the whining and crunching for now. During that process I had to fit 2 new track rod ends as they wouldn't come out of the hubs for toffee. But, after a few moves in and out of the garage and up and down the lane the sump gasket gave up Soooo, last week I replaced the sump gasket which cured that issue. FYI I superglued the gasket to the block before putting the sump in, that made the job quite easy. The rubber rocker cover gasket was leaking ever so slightly too so I replaced that with a cork one. Finally the car is 99% ready for an MOT. I'm having a nightmare setting base idle at the moment though so I'm looking for a new OFAC MAP sensor. Once I've replaced that she'll be ready! Cheers, Lee
  20. Cheers Stu. I put it up here too as there's a lot of people that aren't on PF. For those that aren't, I've done a detailed "How To" on the EFi conversion over on Passionford if you haven't seen it. Lee
  21. Nice one Stu, hard work paid off then. Read the thread last night, sounds like a good strong engine build that! Bet you can't wait for the 1st!
  22. Managed to upload a few vids of her running too: http://youtu.be/ZyRNIBjqF4M http://youtu.be/RR3LGFFEsCM Lee
  23. Well, I replaced the CPS last week and she seems much happier now, starts on the button and idles OK. FYI I fitted one labelled for "Fiesta 1.4, 1.6; Granada 2.0;Scorpio 2.0;Sierra 1.6, 2.0" and cut off the screw terminal. Bad new is the gearbox is on its way out so it'll have to come out in favor of the XR3i one until I can get it sorted/upgraded. Just need to put a few things back together and then it's off for a setup. I have a week off again next month so it'll get done then. Lee :top:
  24. Well lads I had a very successful weekend. I managed to seal the fuel leak but the car still wouldn't start. Eventually I traced a bad earth to the EDIS module and she fired in to life! There's still a slight hesitation, but I'm putting that down to the CPS not being long enough (has a 6mm or so gap from the trigger wheel). All in all very happy. Just need to replace the CPS, tape the loom, refit the dash and tighten the running gear. Basically just need time! Lee
