  1. Were all bolts and nuts tightened with the wheels on the ground?
  2. Not all Mk5's had electric roof and some early Mk6's too.
  3. As a basic you need to replace like for like. I'm not sure about those part numbers but the 97 refers to a revision for that year, so I'd be dubious about choosing that box. But regards to your issue: Is it possible when you re-soldered the joints that two circuits got accidentally joined together? Are all the plugs into the fusebox correctly located? I recall when doing mine there were two identical connectors going to the 'box.
  4. Some great effort gone on there, looks great :-) I've got rust on the rear arches to sort. But I've got a new wing to put on in it's place. Was the gearbox removal a two man job?
  5. Hi, Fusebox faults on mk5/6 are common. Caused by poor soldering from the factory, which over time dries and cracks, leading to broken connections. Sometimes, people can do a cheap fix by bridging the gap between two faults with a wire (as looks like in photo). But ultimately you either need a new fusebox (different types for escorts were used, depending on year and factory spec). Or you can resolder each joint.
  6. Nice one Ollie, I saw that car too and thought hope it goes to someone that will maintain it and not let it go to waste given it was the fathers pride and joy. Glad you've taken ownership of it. It was on for a good price too.
  7. Nice pictures. I guess you don't want to keep it standard?
  8. Nice photos. but were are all the people?! Did the weather hold out at the pod?
  9. Not easily as the unit has to come out. But the graphic equaliser for the period of the MK4 1986-1990 underwent no revisions. So as long as it looks the same as above, you'd be ok. But note for Mk5 onwards there was a similar graphic eq that looks different to this though. I'm hoping to go to the ford show next week, if the weather holds up thou.
  10. They go for good money nowadays as they are becoming rarer, so 60 is not too bad really. But if you car is unmolested you don't want to be cutting wires! Try and source a high spec radio loom (uncut) if you can. I managed to get a new old stock one from an autojumble a few years back for a fiver.
  11. Here we go: Yep keep it standard is best :-)
  12. Nice - but hard to determine value without seeing it fully built.

Not factory fitted alarm looking at that fob and this didn't windscreen mounted sensors Try an alarm specialist or ebay.
  14. Yes, The graphic equaliser has the amp built in. You have one or the other. The 2007 radio has no amp built in and thus requires one of the other to operate. Remove you existing centre console tape holder and replace with the one that housed the amp. Fit graphic in it's place and connect up, all done, You may also have the supporting bracket which would be attached to the amp to hold everything in place at the back. Inever used mine and it's fine. As long as you got most bits of the loom you can splice this into your existing loom if you don't mind cutting the wires and soldering in the new. Good you got the connecting wire from amp to radio, simply connect from radio to graphic. It's nice to have for original high spec looks and all that but the sound is tinny, even with the bass adjusted to the max on the graphic. Surprising it was a £400 option all in new. Good you have the keycode one as there are two versions of the 2007 radio. The 90 spec one has keycode and green display and is the correct one for your car.

Hi, Ford for the plastic a pillar screws. Looks like the missing one is half lodged in there thou!
  16. Hi Have you got all the wiring? If you car did not have the 2007 as standard you will need the hight spec loom and also the special connector cable from radio to graphic. The graphic goes in place of the amp unit as it is an integrated piece. I have this in mine, but since deleting photos from my photobucket page I have now lost them. Graphics - just keep checking ebay, they turn up from time to time. Also - is your radio got a keycode?
  17. Could get the RS accessory bumpers and skirts (not GTI ones). Mine has them factory fitted as they were an optional extra. Improves the looks of the car by miles.

    Aerial Problems

If you aerial actually works, it could only be a broken connection somewhere in the loom. Given you have an aftermarket headunit, are all the wires at the back of unit connected correctly?
  19. Cabs looking great John :-)
  20. Ladies and gentlemen - club membership now renewed and first event of the year signed up for. Ollie, regards the day itself, I understand the organisers can reserve a plot in advance for clubs if given notice. That's how the xr owners club have arranged theirs. Makes it easier if everyone cannot all meet at one specified time?
  21. Hi Did you get it done today? Did mine on my mk6 cabrio a few weeks ago. Couple of pointers 1) Soak both lower arm bolts in WD40 for a few days beforehand. 2) Mk6 and Mk5 struts are different - Mk6 in bottom eye top pin and Mk5 is both bottom and top eye. 3) You will need spring compressors - be careful with these! 4) Set of axle stands that car raise the rear of the car high enough - I found my 2T halfords stands did not give enough height, whilst the 3T version worked a treat.
  22. Nice one, glad you're enjoying it. 6K is not too bad given it would have been 16K new in 1990.
  23. Mine to was stolen recovered, but with ID intact in 1991. I had to replace most parts as they had disappeared. I.e origina windows, fuel computer, mirrors, etc. There was a thread on another forum talking about stolen cars and one mentioned his family having an all blue stolen nearly new by someone removing it with a crane from their driveway. Also mentioned that it was never recovered. I guess all glass on yours has been replaced, along with front and rear lights? Otherwise the original registration would have been etched onto these by the supplying dealer.
