Hi im very sad to say we are going to have to part with my beloved Mk3 cabby..

I would like to ask if anyone knows a way to value it ..and where to advertise ..here is one obvious place of course..

Its a very rare 1984 B reg 1.6 cabriolet..

In loved condition...

The last mot tester said its in better nick than when it left the karmann factory!@

Any advice would be much appreciated ..thank you..Paul (springy)

I am sorry to here you have to sell your pride and joy cabby. A lot of it depends on if you want it to go to a good home or need as much money as possible for it. Some pictures on here would help us to value it, you see some rediculous prices on many car sites and they may be lucky to get near to that money on 1 or 2 but generally most people know is a sensible price for the car to sell. If the car is as good as you say I would think 5 -6 thousand make it affordable. Some would disagree and say a lot more but there are classic car dealers who have had cars for sale for large amounts and are still for sale now nearly 2 years later. Good luck on whatever you decide. Regards Ian.

It is difficult to value any car with seeing it up close tbh

I think the most important thing is bodywork dose it require any welding dose it have any rust in any of the usual places plus condition of the paintwork

Engines can be removed & rebuilt but helps if its all running fine

Originality - worth more if its not had any mods etc

Ps there is no rust anywhere structure or body its in original paint ...it is completely stock ..not even so much as a furry dice !!

I changed the full braking system cooling system ignition system tyres starter cambelt waterpump ...and valvestem seals and hydraulic lifters..and went through top end ...all parts were stock not mods ..i dud ditch the vv carb and put on a weber direct replacement but not a twin choke or anything upgraded a straight swap with standard air fiter housing...

It even has the original ford hubcaps...

The mot guy said its in better nick than when it was built !! Allowing for exagerration of course !!

Ok need to get some pics...up ..somehow 😊

Wow this brings back memories I had one of these but a ghia mk4 version with Weber carb as standard as I couldn't afford the injection variant insurance. If it helps I got my son an even rarer mk3 1.3 carb A reg cabbie last year with full mot on eBay for 1700 I recall but it is a lot more ratty with minor dings, faded paint work and minor rust. My C reg 1.6i is stock not mint but in very good condition and has been independantly agreed valud at 7k. Hope that helps. Jon

hi paul

lovely example of the cabriolet you have there

like others have said its hard to put a price and value on your cabby

plenty of others out there for sale and it all depends on what people are after . colours spec etc

its definitely worth placing in a classic car mag or coming to car shows to let people have a good look around it

good luck with what ever you decide to put it up for

regards ollie

I would say it's rare but rare doesn't always make cars desirable, sometimes they are rare for a reason which is why Ford dropped the Ghia after one year as nobody wanted them. I don't want that to sound off but it's fair to be realistic. I like some of the basic stuff or away from the sporty models shall we say but in fairness they have been hard to shift and you usually sell for a lot less then what I believe they should be worth but market dictates. If an XR3i for example is selling at £3995 for a really nice one when you balance the two the XR3i will sell all the time despite the nostalgia of the lesser models. As alresdy said dealers sit on cars with over inflated prices hoping they can pray on somebody new to the market with tenners leaking from thier skin. Your best bet is to test the market on eBay just before the season starts and excitement brews. I for one like it by the way so good luck but I'd imagine I'm in the minority.

All the best
