Need A New Hood - Hertfordshire

Hi guys,

Does anybody know of a good company, either in Hertfordshire or North London that provide a good fitting service for new hoods.

I have been looking at Car Hood Warehouse Ltd. and from what I've heard about them I am willing to travel the distance to Chessington unless anyone knows of any decent companies closer to me, who they recommend.

The next big question is... mohair or vinyl. From what I've read the mohair seems the better option in the sense that it is going to last longer. But what I want to know is will it make the car look completely non standard, what is it like to maintain/clean? If anyone has had a mohair hood fitted I'd be interested to see your pics to see what it looks like.

This is for a White Mk4, so will probably go with a black hood (the same as what it has at the moment). Just need to decide what material to go with and what company to use.

Ta!

Hi there I have a mohair roof and id say they look better but there hard work if you dont have its stored in a garage mine is always outdoors so I will be going for vinyl when it needs changing.

As for looks id say its down to how original you want your car to be. there is lots of cars Ive seen at shows with mohair roofs

hello

you wont go far wrong with using car hood warehouse .they provide a very good service

next thing is mohair lasts and looks much nicer than vinyl unless of course you get a white roof lol

if you clean and hoover it enough it will stay nice.

take a look at my classified ad on here to see the mohair in black

good luck

Cheers guys,

I think the mohair is going to have to be the best option what is the upkeep with it like? Do you have to use anything special to clean it with? Although it's not original I think it looks nicer and it's going to last longer and she's kept in the garage as well so should definitely be nicer for longer!

And I think we're going to stick with the black, though white would look nice, I don't trust myself wearing a white t-shirt so a white hood is just asking for trouble!!!!

good choice

keeping it clean is easy enough if you keep on top of it .just a soft brush and soapy water try not to jet wash it to often

handy toothbrush to get in the rear and side edges clean

 there is an autoglym hood cleaner and protector you can buy aswel

cheers olliel

Hi Lincoln..

Yea,... I'd go along with the general conception that the MOHAIR is a better option. I replaced my old vynial in June last year with a Black

MOHAIR,which on a white cabby looks far really great..Although I do keep the cabby garaged 99.9% of the time.

Do remember though that there are two qualities of MOHAIR on the market (3 actually, but the 3rd is usually only supplied to "Top Brands"..Mercs/

BMw,etc.) The two usually used are A... Stayfast, & B... Twillfast.............The STAYFAST being the less expensive and of a slightly lower

quality , whilst the TWILLFAST is of a better quality with the "TWILL LOOK" and being more like the material used on The Top Cars.

May I suggest that you ask your potential supplier which material he is quoting for and if possible to send you a sample of both Stayfaet & Twillfast

so you can see and decide for your self.. May be a good idea to contact Car Hoods Northern ,who I understand come out to your own

house an fit .........I think that there may be some kind of Club Discount available, but you would have to check on this.. Any way take a look at

a previous article in this FORUM.......... "NEW MOHAIR HOODS"..... "WHY THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE"?...........

Lets know how you get on !!!!
