So weve all had the discussion a thousand times over... and so have I over the years.
Yes ford didnt make an RST Cabriolet.

HOWEVER..... I found out some news about my late 91 registered se500 that Im currently restoring.
It Was apparently supplied NEW by FORD under a police/military contract....wait for it...yes, with an RS Turbo engine and box.

If I can get confirmation of this, could this possibly be the only 1 of its kind...? 😮

TBH I’ve never seen of an RS Cabriolet that was produced new from the factory

But it could have been possible

Back in the day you could just contact the DVLA and change the vehicle details and they wouldn’t even check the details where correct

so don't believe everything unless you have proof

Yes I know what you mean. I dont mean the logbook as even se500s all say XR3i dont they?
Im actually talking about being produced from the factory supplied with the full RS worx plus optional RST engine and box.
I thought no one has ever proved one existed or actually happened.
Im working on getting more details but alas, its like having a treaure map with only half a trail atm

I would think it's more likely a dealer done the alterations, some fitted turbos to standard engines if I remember rightly, ?

They were Turbo Technics kits and ran about 6psi boost

in my experience there is nothing capable of doing quite as much damage to an engine as a really determined idiot.

If it is original, then the last 7 of the chassis number will match the engine number on the block above the water pump outlet.

If they match, post up a picture. The Turbo technics kits ran a T2 or T2.5 Turbo similar to the Fiesta RST compared to the factory fitted T3

Anything is possible TBH when I was Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port general assembly I used to take new model year parts to a secure area in another building

I sometimes had the opportunity to have a  look at the next generation cars (about year before release) that where on a mock up assembly line where they worked out

the schedule for assembly, some models had options that never seen final  production - don't know what ever happened to these cars but 1 or 2 where defo fully completed and running

As already said anything is possible. It's unlikely Karman would have converted a single car or even the odd few and it definitely would not have been done on an assembly line as that wouldn't be possible. I suppose SVE may have had the capability who knows, not sure why the Police or Military would want a Cabriolet. I know sometimes Government bodies or Royals cars were registered to the authorities and SVE certainly adapted cars for Royals as one offs. Lady Di had a cabriolet but believe it was a metallic red MK3. The problem you have with changing cars from the norm is warranty because nobody recognises it nor knows what to do with it, this is why they leave to the dealer usually. Somebody inside Ford has said that SVE enjoyed working with the Cabriolet. I have some prototype images, the original mock up looks quite different. Sadly I cannot share these.
