Lovejoy
Hi, I thought I'd join the forum and show you my mums XR3i cabriolet and ask a few questions. She bought it around 1994-95 I think, and used it sparingly on nice days. Its been off the road since 2001, dry stored in the factory where my dads worked, he's now retired so its now in their garage. Its a two owner car with 43k on the clock. I'm planning to get it cleaned up and back on the road but I need a few parts but I dont really know where to look. I've looked on ebay but don't really know what parts are correct. If anyone has any bits or can tell me where to look that would be great. We need: 1. Front fog lights - My dad removed these because the chrome inside had gone rusty, unfortunately he removed the brackets too and they've now been lost 2. Drivers side sill cover, I think this is called a 90 spec kit, but could be wrong! Again dad removed it as it was bubbling and he wanted to make sure the sill wasnt rusty, luckily the sill is fine but the cover needs replacing. 3. Passenger side door lock - In 2001 someone tried stealing it and damaged the lock, luckily they never got in and this was the only damage, it was shortly after this that mum took it off the road so it never got sorted. 4. Hood cover - We never had one so it would be nice to get one. I think thats it, it needs a good service but runs great, heres a few pics Untitled by Steve Holden, on Flickr Untitled by Steve Holden, on Flickr Untitled by Steve Holden, on Flickr Untitled by Steve Holden, on Flickr Untitled by Steve Holden, on Flickr Untitled by Steve Holden, on Flickr Untitled by Steve Holden, on Flickr
Admin Ollie Posted November 30, 2017 Admin Share Posted November 30, 2017 hello and welcome to the cabriolet club always nice to see another red one on the club worth looking on ebay for the hood cover I will put a link up for some when I get a chance the locks I will have a look for you but may be worth changing both but means you will have separate keys from ignition regards Ollie
Ian71
New fogs are a grey area, some say not available ,but I know one member bought a set from BMW mini ,let me explain ,mini coopers from the same era fitted the same lights. Second hand wise a good condition set can sell for £200 plus, am told new ones purchased from mini were only £100.00 . The sill covers I expect are side skirts ,these do come up for sale on eBay second hand, will prob need painting, lock sets again come up on eBay. Nice car by the way good luck. RScab
Looks a very nice Cab that m8 Genuine new Spot lamps & brackets are rare & very expensive they do show up now & then but be prepared to dig deep into your pockets if your going to fit Genuine parts even used items can fetch good money genuine spots where Corello 640's and you'll need 90 spec brackets like in the pic's I've added as for the lock, i'd just get a used lock & buy a repair it & make it to suit you original keys tricky if you've not done it before but can be done Side sill skirts - good luck findin a set of them
gingergman
looks stunning! the only thing you'll struggle with is the sill cover, never personally seen a set for sale over the years, extremely rare, would be easier to remove the other side and clean underneath and leave them off, not many had that type fitted from new so no one will know. Lovejoy
Thank you for the replys I appreciate it. I thought the sill cover would be hard to find, the outer rubber bit is ok its the metal insert that has totally rotted. I think I'll try and remake this in stainless or ali. I'll keep a lookout for foglights, thankyou for the pics RScab I think I've found a guy on eBay who can get a new lock to work with our spare key so thats good. If and when anything happens I'll start a build thread. Thanks again

RScab
Hi again I thought it was the rubber sill part you was looking for if its the metal sill (Red section - Part of the Body Shell) your after you can buy a new 2 door outer sill and trim it to suit you can then fabricate the support section (Purple section) form steel
Lovejoy
Hi RScab, sorry I didnt make myself clear, the actual sill of the car is solid, its the metal in the 90 spec trim piece thats rotten.
