Ian71
When u say did not want to start , did the engine turn over or did the starting motor not turn the engine over ? reason i ask is cvh engines are known for destroying starting motors because they get hot from the engine. Ian71
Check all the electrical connections on the battery terminals and cable to starter.
Guest username
Ours does/did that on occasion and I put it down to heatsoak affecting the starter. Its possible a cheapo recon unit could still suffer in the same way but make sure all your connectors are clean & tight including the main earth lead at the top of the bellhousing. I'm planning to give our starter a quick strip/clean/lube before I put the engine back together and see if that helps things.
Ian71
I have four cars with differing cvh engine set ups ,and they all have from time to time done this.

Stephen Bearded Minky Hill
I don't even know how many new starters I've had over the years. Even with the heat shield and wrapped the exhaust. Just seems like they only last so long and because of where they are they get hot and lazy.
Springy2112
Yep mine too ..was intermittent got new one and couldn't believe how quick it turned...you get used to a lazy starter as it gradually gets worse..
Guest username
I wonder... While looking at ZVH builds I seem to recall reading about the starter being on the back of those. I wonder if there's any way you could use an adaptor plate in the reverse format of the ZVH type build, to relocate the CVH starter at the back? (Unlikely as it surely would have been done to death by now given the appetite for starters in stock form... I think there may be a bit of block casting in the way on the CVH block as there's a gap that needs covering on ZVH builds) Edited March 16, 2017 by username
pcott
Is there any other place starter can be located or is that not an option how long does the starters last ???
Stephen Bearded Minky Hill
I use mine every day and they tend to last a couple of years. And alternators die after about 4 ish years lol
pcott
Tried escort again would not start starter clicks then charged battery while still on car fired up no probs it looks a new starter could it be call in battery or any other ideas please ?? Baffled it keeps doing this
Guest username
First thing is make sure the battery is definitely good & not being drained by either a shorted cell or something on the car (boot light is a good suspect) If that and all the connectors/earths are good then likely its the starter. If it just clicks and doesn't try to turn over at all its likely the solenoid but unless you're an experienced bodger like me it's not really practical to strip/clean contacts and lube up the solenoid as it's meant to be part of the starter and replaced as a unit. Paul Grainger
Have a look at the big reg cable on the starter motor. Being right at the front means it is prone to corrosion. Also the other cable that attaches to it is the charge wires from the alternator. Check these for condition. If these are corroded then you will have all sorts of problems. The charge voltage can look ok with a multimeter but switch the lights on etc and the current can't be delivered and the battery goes flat. This is quite common so worth a look.
