zygott Posted May 25, 2016 Share Posted May 25, 2016 hi i have a 1990 efi xr3i,with a slight misfire. there is a grey box on top of the coil pack, i have been told this is an ignition amplifier. if i unplug this the car runs the same! i have used a multimeter on the wire and its showing 10 ohms resistance to earth. there are a few cracks in the wire, there is only 1 wire connecting to the unit, and its bolted to the metal cage the coil pack is mounted to. could the unit be faulty and that is causing the misfire? the car is drivable, but you can feel the misfire at constant speed. Stephen Bearded Minky Hill Posted May 25, 2016 Share Posted May 25, 2016 I have just changed my spark plugs to Bosch fr6dcx instead of ngk and it has made a world of difference. I think that grey module is a suppressor. Other things I have tried are the throttle position sensor on the throttle body and the map sensor. But the plugs by far have made the biggest difference.
