Spark Plugs....ngk/bosch

Recommended Posts

I may have stumbled across a thread on passion ford about rough running cvh efi's. As it turns out if you are using ngk plugs the electrode is slightly too short. I have now fitted a set of Bosch FR6DCX plugs and I cannot believe the difference. I'm running efi turbo by the way and set the gap to 1mm.

Hmmm, hinteresting.... Will have a gander at ours later, can't think what make they are but I've always hated NGK in my bikes as they seem to foul so much easier than other makes, even cheapies... Also something I've noted when only NGK has been available, the resistor type are even worse than non resistor so where possible I "upgrade" the code from, for example, DR8 ESL to D8 ESL hence getting rid of the resistor part.

Be good to hear from others about what plugs they use and how their car runs...

Well our set of FR6DCX arrived today, will fit 'em and report back when the tension cable "situation" allows me to finish the new roof

As an aside, those who have them already, where were yours made? It's stamped onto the side of the plug just above the sealing washer. I was expecting them to be German but they were made in Russia...

Well out came the old plugs, Bosch super FR7DC no less but they are well and truly worn out although strangely the gaps were a bit small IMO at 0.85mm, and they're utterly black. Also they were none too tight, the sealing washers aren't even crushed.

Here's hoping the new DCX's have a noticeable effect. I can't see it not improving to be fair, from the state of these I think a set of NGK's would have even helped!

We've got them in now and starting is much improved from what it was, idle does seem smoother also but haven't driven it yet due to our ongoing roof replacement. However we do have other issues with fuelling which I've fiddled with at the same time so any improvement is not guaranteed to be from the plugs (bearing in mind ours were, admittedly eons old, Bosch to start with)
