Mk3 Shocks N Springs

Ok, I've had the mk3 out for a few wee runs, and I've decided the suspension feels awfy tired. I'd say it'll need new bushes but I also feel that with it being a GL I need new springs n shocks.

So the debate, I'm not wanting to slam it, maybe 20-30mm max from standard, and it won't be getting driven hard, so what's everyone's thoughts, I don't want to spend a small fortune either! So what would you choose and why...

Replace all the bushes you need to with gen ford then the one's you can't get buy poly's.

As for suspension, i agree theres no real need to go lower than 30mm, car won't handle all that well in the wet plus there's the risk of chassis damage.

You could get KYB shocks with PI springs for a couple of hundred last time i checked, i've run them and they are good but the rear springs didn't last that long so i replaced with Avo springs

Can you still get some of the rear bushes over there from Ford? Specifically the ones on the rear tie rod/trailing arm. The rearmost ones are still available from Ford here, but not the front ones (for the rear tie bar). I have some poly ones I had bought from TAS years ago but would rather put OEM in this particular car as it's stock and pretty beat up.

I am reading this with great interest as I have my daily driver plus the cabrio that will need some attention once I get it going. It looks like some of the places I bought from 10+ years ago are out of business. There was never a huge aftermarket for Escorts in the US unfortunately, I ordered most of my racing upgrades from overseas.

I only had to buy poly's for rear wishbone to hub and inner rear wishbone bushes so i'm afraid your out of luck with them, all the other bushes i needed i bought from ford.

I have also replaced my KYB shocks and Avo springs for Koni top adjustable's and 30mm lowering springs, highly recommended

I was thinking of the Koni set, but the ones I saw were lower I'd like.

To be honest I won't be driving hard enough to really see the difference between poly and standard. I'll play the bushes by ear I think.

That is so interesting as I think it's the exact opposite that's available over here. I really wish we could buy from whichever Ford we'd like, but even working at a dealer I can't seem to do that.

I had a set of Koni Special Ds on my 88 - loved them! I was given a set with the cabriolet and was hoping to get them rebuilt for both cars. They lowered the car just a little, front more than back to level the car. The hatches here are low in the tail.
