No Power To Fuel Pump Mk4 Efi

Recommended Posts

Hi there. I drove home today fine, went to go out again and it started but then cut out. Tryed to start again and noticed no humming from the pump. I got rid of the cut out switch ages ago so I checked the connection under the spare wheel and put a bulb on it and nothing. Swapped around all the yellow relays, one under dash and two in the fuse box and still nothing. Has anyone got any ideas????

Small brown wire going to the negative batt point, mine was corroded and came off a while ago and can be another reason why the fuel pump isnt working as well as all the other obvious ones

Stephen,

Welshlad's right. If you've checked for the obvious, you're going to have to trace the feed to the pump. You'll need a wiring diagram though. Haynes me be the only way unless there's a source in here. You could try tapping the pump with the ignition on and see if it kickstarts.

Cheers welshlad. I've checked that small earth and that's all good. I've disconnected the battery and put a pack on the body and the wire in the boot where the cut out switch was that goes to the pump but still no pump but I traced the wire back to the relay and there's power. Going to drop the tank tomorrow and put power straight to the pump and see if it has died.

Hmm cant see how that could of packed up as its only where the power wires pass through to get to the pump spade terminal ends.. is it corroded inside etc ?

You could drill a hole through it (and obviously use a rubber grommet to prevent the wire rubbing) and rewire a good length of wire through to some new spade terminals but the problem there is that fumes/pressure might escape if not sealed properly

Have you tried ebay/breakers as that top part should be cheap, without the sender/pump
