Was gonna give up earlier on when i noticed my slam panel was crispier than i first noticed/knew about and i spotted a split fuel return pipe going from fuel regulator GRRRRRR

Its not too bad tho i suppose, slam panel will be ok till next year and ill replace it, and pipe is only a few quid. Time is running out tho and ive lost my driveshaft seals so had to buy some more  havnt even started sanding it down yet and im worried what ill find under the body kit

Bought some new black carpet to go in as the interior is going black (/red) only £26 delivered off ebay with 2x cans of adhesive spray Bargain!! and its good stuff too. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ambassadorcarmats/

Tried cutting the whole carpet using the old one as a template but as some of you already know its got sort of moulded curves in areas

so i am doing it in 3x sections which doesn't really matter as the joins will be under the front seats. Obviously i wont have the built in foot tread plate but im getting custom red mats anyway, i can re fit the Vin plate cover though. Just waiting for my Rattlemat sound deadening now

Bit of a update being as its now looking like a 12month project

Had a update of Mondo (hidenseat) hes been having problems with the design of my front door cards so hes on design number 4 i think he said so due to the delay ive lost all motivation as well as having my usual day job and a canal boat to sand - rust proof and paint (what a mission thats being)

Yesterday while i had a good few hours of no work i decided to carry on fitting the clutch cable to the peddle so decide to take the dash out, lucky i did because i noticed that the main red radio power wire was melted for about a meter across the loom  so obv i sorted that, so i checked all the alarm wiring and found 5 areas of wiring that required attention and 6 wires that were bare on the ends with no tape etc on them  im lucky i havnt lost my car due to fire. Perhaps there was my battery dying problem i had last year. i think im going to spray the dash black while it is out otherwise it wont match the seats/cards and new carpet.

its def not going to be ready this year i think  but at least ill have plenty of time to spray it, fit the new mohair hood, buy some new suspension (even tho its got new standard stuff on) and fit my old skool awesome sound system maybe ill have a months worth of cruising around before it gets locked up in the garage

Theres a 94 fiesta rs 1800 next to my garage too, been there for years and kids have smashed all windows in it, im going to try and buy it i think for the engine, id love to use it a daily runner but ive just bought a 125 enduro and the boss/wife says no lol

Firstly, I'd like to express my appreciation to Tony for his patience. He was originally supposed to have everything back from me in May but that just didn't happen. Then I used a couple of hides of top quality leather whilst trying to settle on an effective design for his doorcards, so I had to wait for more to be delivered.

He's been a top bloke so Thank You, Tony!

Anyway, now I come to one of the downsides of working on "old cars" - other peoples' modifications!

Someone has "modified" the Recaro seat bases, presumably so they sit lower down in the car. The four mounting sections on each base, that the runners bolt to, have been removed with, from the look of it, a chisel.

That means that the new leather covers won't fit properly without modification.

However, just to add to my misery, the bases have then been drilled (presumably to mount the runners) but no captive nuts have been welded. This means that when Tony comes to mount the runners, he's going to have to half-remove the new covers in order to do so. And when the runners are mounted, he's not going to be able to fasten the new covers back into place. Because the runners will be in the way!

Then, just to add to the problems, the foremost mounting holes appear to utilise the existing hole that the seat diaphragm clips into at the very front of the base. Which means that the diaphragms can't be fitted correctly, which means they'll look a bit poor and also won't support the seat foam properly!

All in all, this is not a good situation. I think the best solution is to try and source a pair of replacement baseframes, unless Tony for some reason needs his front seats to be 1.5" lower than standard. But to be honest, if I try to use the frames I have here, his front seats are going to look and feel pretty crap as the bolster covers won't fit properly and the diaphragms will sag.

Welcome back to old Escorts, Si...

Anyway, troubles with seat bases aside, I thought I'd add a little something to this thread. Aside from having two passenger seats (yep!), there's no issues with the uprights so here's how they're looking at the moment:

Black leather and red stitching. Very suave! They feel nice and firm again, and silky smooth. It should all look rather great when it's all finished and refitted into Tony's red Cabbie!
