Guest chris.lord32@hotmail.co.uk
Ok so today's new problem is the electric mirrors ! - they're working perfectly except they work off the opposit switch position or the right of the left switch position and vice versa - anyone had this before ? My immediate thoughts are that of switch or relay ? Anyone help out with a diagram or bit of know how ? 1997 ghia cabby
allblue
Hi You are having lots of issues with electrics in your car. Do you have any other electrical faults? My hunch would be the fusbox playing up (common on mk5/6's due to dry solder). But if it is localised to the wing mirror/central locking, you probably need to check the door loom to ensure the loom is not at fault. Guest chris.lord32@hotmail.co.uk
Cheers allblue - yes central locking not working whatsoever either but power hood and windows working fine - all fuses checked on car and are good ! Have opened up the door loom connector and sprayed with electrical contact cleaner to try a quick fix but no joy ! I'm an alarm engineer for my day job but have come to a bit of a standstill with this one at the mo ! From memory on my old k plate cabby I had 10 years ago - (gutted I sold it now) when the fuse box hinged down a bit the soldered joints could be got at from there is that the same on this ? allblue
More or less the same. I did a tutorial saved here when I had electrical problems. In short, I took out the fusebox (make a note of the wiring layout before removing wires from fusebox), removed the cover & resoldered almost every joint. Ever since - alomst six years ago & 60K miles later, no problems so far, touch wood. Cost = a few quid for some solder and that's it. BTW - does your interior heater fan work? Guest El87cabi
Yes, mk6 fusebox is as you are thinking, biggest issue with mk6 box was a fault after time that'd make the car cut out, quickest fix was a wire to connect the 2 30 amp engine fuses at the fuse, did work but not advised. If you've eliminated the switch, checked all your wirings sending the power all the way to where you want it, plus 'borrowed' someones door mirror to eliminate that also either have the fusebox out and decide if it needs repair (an option i didn't have with my mk6 si, beyond my skills) or try and get another one as i did, the numbers on them need to be completely identical if you go this route. I was lucky and got one from Bradgate Motors. Hope this helps, wiring faults are an utter mare esp with the older cabs as you find bodge jobs all over the place
Skittles80
We repaired ours on our mk5 as decided with a 2nd hand one we could buying the same problem again well worth the hassle cured every fault
