Mk3 Crazy Lights....

I have just got myself a 1984 mk3 Cabby, body work looks pretty good, and drives well. Couple of niggles though.

When braking the rear side lights come on, no buggy, probably a bad earth or the tracks on the bulb holders needing cleaned. The indicator bulbs need replaced too, as they would give anyone with epilepsy a seizure they flash that fast!

.

Here's the big one, when turning off the ignition, and taking the key out with your foot on the brake the car just keeps running. It's as if the ingition is running off the 12v of the brake lights? Never had this in all my life of driving (which is a looong time, I can tell ya)

There are other small niggles too, but nothing I can't handle...

Well, lights all sorted, who ever had the car before me had stuck random bulbs in, doubles in singles and singles in doubles. Dodgy connectors connecting to the tracks. Now the bulbs have been replaced all going well. Indicators a bit quick which is probably the relay.

The plus is the fact it stops running when the key taken out even if the brake pedal is pressed which is a double bonus. Still very weird though!!

Nope me neither. I'll keep an eye on it though to see if it happens again. The cars gonna be garaged for the winter now though so won't be doing much driving in it to replicate the problem.

.

Up until 2008 (1 owner) it had a shed load of receipts for work and servicing done, so recon the last 3 owners have let it slip (4 in total before me) so hopefully I'll be able to catch it before it's too late. It does have condensation in the boot so I imagine it's been kept outside for a while. Very little condensation in the cabin though which I'd say is a positive as the first night I got it I had to leave it outside.
