Ford Immobiliser And Fuse Box Issues

Hi guys,

I've been lurking on the forum for a year or so, and was hoping for a bit of technical help.

I've got a 96 Escort convertible, the electric windows all failed together and On looking at the fuse box could see dry joints and burnt tracks. I took it out and re soldered everything, put it back, and Now the Ford Imobiliser light doesn't flash at all and it won't start, so I'm assuming I've messed something up with the fuse box. I've bypassed the engine start inhibitor relay and it cranks, assuming the fuse box is knackered, and nothing on the imobiliser in any manuals, other than finding that this is usually a feed fault.

The fuse box is a 96AG14A073BA , so I thought Id ask what would be a suitable replacement?

I have been offered a 97AG14A073BB, I wasn't sure if this was suitable, I have been told the final letter is interchangeable but wasn't sure about the year prefix.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Neil

As a basic you need to replace like for like. I'm not sure about those part numbers but the 97 refers to a revision for that year, so I'd be dubious about choosing that box.

But regards to your issue:

Is it possible when you re-soldered the joints that two circuits got accidentally joined together?

Are all the plugs into the fusebox correctly located?

I recall when doing mine there were two identical connectors going to the 'box.

Thanks allblue. All the plugs seem fine, I reckon I will have messed up soldering somewhere but can't see anything obvious.

Did you get to the bottom of this? I have just replaced my fuse box with a new one. Gone from a BA to a BB (end of code) same year. My immobiliser light is now not flashing and mine won't start either. It's not even attempting to start.

The last three letters MUST match. They are the most important ones. If it doesn't then you would get some connectors wont fit, or certain circuits wont work.
