well i have had it up n down 3 times now seems to be getting easier each time so hopefully thats the key to it just using it best thing is when it is up its mega tight so not complaining about that.

Hi guys

Ive had the same problem on my mk4, it should basically be the same problem!,, climb in the back of the car with the hood up, put your hands up the sides of the internal roof trim, feel for a support bar in the roof and pull it forward then the roof should close perfect  you might have to do it a few times just to get it moving freely

hi all, I have the same problem, fitting another roof (mohair) i think that the back of my hood isnt seating right round the seal, was about 1" short from closing after a while i mannaged to get one side sitting correctly when closed, the other side is still about 10mm short from reaching the locating peg hole for closure. Another thing that makes me think this is related to the hood sealing at the back is that when i put the roof back down the back of the hood drops onto the parcel shelf. any help appreciated.

ian71 does yours drop away at the back when putting roof down? iam thinking of doing mine in mink oil to possibly soften it up a bit and give it that extra bit of protection.

I think we should try swapping the whole roof and mech from the mk6 to the mk5 then if that works then fit a new roof to that mech it don't take that many bolts to swap over then it answers the question then if it works then we can refit the rear trim

Mine was left open in an upright position for 15 years. I can't get it to close now, though it seems closer yesterday. I've lubed all the pivot points in the past year.

I do have a new roof and I'm hoping the inside of it isnt damaged

Argh! I can't edit my post.

2 pix - one is the way he had it stored for 15 years. The second is how far it usually closes. I had it outside since yesterday and it was much warmer yesterday, and I got it much closer to closing. There seems to be looseness inside so I'm hoping the new roof will fix it (the old one is in bad shape).

I may try leaving it outside in the closed position next time we get some warm days to see if I can get it any further.

nope no adjustment on the 3 bolt fixings, but at very back of hood theres the gutter which goes round the base of the rear of hood, that has 2 small 8mm bolts on either corner i slackened them off, going to completely remove them today, then pull hood up and re tighten them and see if that cures my problem. fingers crossed!

Had mine sitting outside in the sun for 2 days and got it closed! Sunday we got close enough to put the hooks in (took 2 of us and a couple of light taps on them). Sounds like we were also pushing on that bar you talked about, but from the outside. Definitely not a one person operation yet!

Yesterday I pushed the latches completely closed. I was able to open them and close them again, but didn't pull them completely out. Now that it's outside and I have more room to move, I can see there are more pivot points in the back I just hadn't seen before.

I'm trying to be good and not touch it yet though I am very tempted to drop it and put it back up again. The back window looks to be in the right place and the wrinkling is going away inside. Sunday you could see the window was hanging down too much.

I spoke too soon. It was over 80 degrees today and sitting in the sun. I dropped the top and got it to settle all the way in! I knew it was too high before. Alas, I can't get it latched back up front again - it's still a 2 person job. Oh well. I lubed the joints I had missed in the past and will have my guy help me push it closed again.

was ok till it slammed shut, part of the frame is siezed i reckon as it stood un moved on a car for 5 years or so, its only one side too! ive messed around with it a bit but still no joy, i can get it to clip in but bugger it pulls and you can see the car flex up the screen posts.
