The guide I followed had a parts list, somebody has calculated the comp ratio using the st170 bottom end, normal 2.0 zetec head and a specific head gasket. It drops the comp ratio nicely. So that no decomp plate is required.

I've done a fair few jobs to the car and have a few more to do before classic ford next weekend.

Raised the suspension by 25mm, drives much better, modded the waterpump pulley bolts as they were catching the inner wing when cornering hard.

Started getting into detailing so I'm in the process of getting it really clean and shiny.

I destroyed a gearbox last year, turned out the diff was no good anyway.

I've got a set of toyo r1r tyres to fit at weekend, few bits of wiring to tidy and I've now got a timing belt cover fitted.

You can see where the gasket has blown between the fire ring and the water jacket, which is what I expected to find.

So now the plan is, head pressure tested and skimmed, new head gasket and the block faced, so it looks like a strip down of the bottom end, which means a load of other bits, so I better get the engine right out now lol.

Well its been back on the road now since start of March, nearly covered 160miles now.

Took it to a show yesterday and on the way back noticed the oil pressure light on, pulled over straight away, oil level was good, checked sensor connection that was good started the engine and all sounded fine, light went out. Set off and not long after light came on, it went out after 2000rpm, so thought either ring breakdown or chance it, luckily I was only around 7 miles from home so I kept the revs so light was off and switched engine off at traffic lights.

Got the car in the garage at home, let it cool down a bit, up on axle stands, fitted the sender unit I have for a new TIM electric oil pressure gauge, put the car back on the wheels, wired up the gauge and started the engine which was still warm, 50psi at idle, had it running for a minute or so, next thing the dash light comes on, gauge says 50psi and increases when revved.

So a faulty oil pressure switch is the answer which I have to admit is a massive relief, new 1 ordered and I will now get the gauge properly mounted in the car along with an additional water temp gauge and either a oil temp or voltage gauge. I also have another fan switch to fit as the s2 escort turbo switch I fitted is bringing the fans on far too early.

The car will be going in the bodyshop in the near future for a new front bumper (modded slightly to get more cold air through to radiator) and to have the bonnet painted and front wings, due to stone chips on the bonnets front edge.

Wheels will hopefully be refurbed this month too.
