.dan.
A couple of years ago I fancied a toy, had a budget of £500, it had to be fun, and cheap to insure. I did a quote on lots of 80's era cars and the Escort Cabriolet in general came out at just over £100 fc, winner. So I set about looking for one within budget, wasnt too fussed if it were a runner had mot or tax, i dont mind getting my hands dirty. It could even be a complete project I wasnt too fussed. The one that caught my eye was bright yellow, I like to stand out, not knowing much about these cars I chatted to the seller, aggreed a price, and off i went to loughborough with trailor in tow. £450 later I came back with "Scabby", my 1989 Tennis. No Tax or mot. Sellers pic. On back of friends car. For the Mot it needed some welding on the sills and thats about it. Was then Insured and put 6 months Tax on it. that was a great 6 months. Some Pics taken once mot'd, taxed and insured.
.dan.
That was 2011, end of which I moved house so the toys had to go on the back burner for a while, and Scabby has sat patienty in my garage staring at the arse end of my campervan, feeling a bit neglected. This weeekend just gone, a friend popped over and this happened, I'll let the pics do the talking......

Guest escott1973i
hi m8 what are you plans what colour you painting it parts you need or changing ect..
.dan.
Plans for this weekend include getting in behind the front wings to see what lurks in the darkness, then I will be able to give a better idea. Tho I think its going to have a new front panel, new front outer wings, maybe inner wings, sill repairs, new scuttle panel, A pillar repairs inc at bottom of windscreen, new inner and outer n/s/r arches, and probably the same on the o/s/r, and repairs to the rear panel.Doors look ok but need closer inspection. little things like rubbers etc will probably need replacing. Boot lid looks good but there is cracking to the spoiler. repair or replace arch trims and skirts. front bumper needs replacing rear bumper looks good. bonnet needs replacing and will go with a std RS replacement. Strip and remove as much yellow as possible. Paint is narrowed down to two choices, white with matching tiger stripes as my fiesta (see my rides post) or mercury grey. Hope to source a complete RS set up engine etc once body nears completion, RS wheels but will probably go coilovers for suspension. think thats about it as far as plans go. .dan.
tbf the inner wings seem fairly solid so we have decided to keep them with a few patch repairs here and there. scuttle panel also seems more solid than at first look so thats staying and being patched. next job is to remove the front crossmember, can anyone tell me if this should be braced before its removed?? parts to source list: front crossmember front panel (does this come with bonnet slam panel??) bonnet slam panel N/S & O/S front wings Can anyone reccomend somewhere for panels, reasonably priced and fair quality? After this it seems the engine and loom should come out so the entire engine bay can be cleaned and repaired as nesecary and the crossmember once sourced can go back in. then front panel and slam panel before making a decision on wether to repai or replace the a pillar posts and then wings back on. Has anyone got any hints/tips for removing the engine and loom?
gingergman
A fair bit of rot to sort there! The front panel is part of the bonnet slam panel

.dan.
so this sundays aim was to remove the wiring loom so we had complete access to the engine bay to start the clean up. first up I noticed some paint peel at the air intake to the cabin so I began peeling and revealed a gaping hole covered with silicone sealent, more cutting out and replacing with good metal to be done. then it took 6 hours to remove the complete loom so ran out of time. my mate curly got the grinder out with a flap disc and had a quick go at one or two surface rust spots and i had a sigh of relief as thats all it was, surface rust. quick dusting with a rattle can and thats where it ended. no pics im afraid as we were to occupied/busy with the wiring. .dan.
long story short as its been a few weeks since my last update. have many pics but havent got round to sorting them yet. inner wings on, cross member on, front panel on, numerous tin worm holes repaired, welded, filled, smoothed and seam sealed, some sill repairs and some undersealing. few more sill repairs to go and rear arches to go and small repairs to rear corners. then completely strip everything else off and prep for paint. hope to be looking out soon for an rs doner vehicle.
