well, my mk3 mfi is still bogging out on roundabouts, it only seems to be if i have under halft a tank of fuel in it though and if really steady on the throttle it doesnt do it as much. its strange. have had the tank out and cleaned, cleaned and checked the pump and cheacked all fuel lines ( replaced a few here and there ) also changed the filter near the air box. and i have put some dry fuel in just incase there was water in the system. also tried fuel system cleaner too .

dont know if it changed anything but when it bogged out yesterday coming off a roundabout it backfired ... not sure if its overfueling maybe??? doesnt smell rich and the car idles at about 700rpm

i did notice another filter or something at the rear of the car on the left side and was not sure if this was a standerd thing - hell i dont actually know what it is lol and i dont know if i should be using lead replacement in the old girl or not . when i have used it its not made any difference.

im absolutley baffled as to what it could be - its def not relay or pump , theres no crap in the tank either and no leaks etc .

any help anyone lol

the other filter thing you mention, is it in the engine bay yeah? if so its the fuel accumulator.

are you driving it normal round roundabouts or chucking it round them? i used to chuck mine around the same roundabout everyday and if i had about half a tank or under it would do what you say, i put mine down to going to fast and fuel moving in the tank to the side therefore sucking in air.

hi thanks for the reply , no the other filter thing is at the rear of the car , the fuel line outlet comes out of the elec pump and then goes about 3 ft before it reaches this filter or whatever it is, the inlet and the outlet on it are both at the same end.

as for the cutting out , it never did it before - just woke up one day and it had started playing up and ive figured that i need over half a tank af fuel or it bogs out. going round roundabouts its not being chucked around , well not all the time lol but it does happen when im going slow anmd fast.

and another thing - not sure if ive found the prob but tonight i cam off a roundabout straight onto a duel carrage way and the car totally died - looked under the bonnet and somehow the dizzy cap had come undone ( even though its screwed in type ) and had caught the rotor arm which now has a wopping crack all the way down and doesnt stay in the correct position. its currently bodged with gafa tape and glue until i get a new one tomorrow but im thinking that if the rotor arm was loose ( the locating b it inside it is shot ) then it may be the cause of the bogging out so will have to see.

yeah from the looks of it someone has been there before as one screw is bigger than the other, yeah i will try to get a pic tomorrow of this filter thing , starting to wonder if it might be those charcoal filters so i can use unleaded fuel as car is a B reg - in all fairness im not actually sure what it should run on but i jsut use normal unleaded lol no smoke or ratttles so far lol

I had this problem, I took the tank out and examined, it, the petrol pick up pipe was probably soldered/brazed, what have you, at the wrong angle so anything less than a 1/3rd full of petrol going around roundabouts, sharp right hand turns it would stall. I got a second hand tank and never ever had the problem ever again. I had tried everything and it was a manufacturing fault. However by the time I had got my hands on it and two years of investigative work Ford didn't want to know! The car was about 5 years old. But the warranty only applied to the original owner they told me and after this length of time I got to talk to the hand!
